Holliesmum.....thank you. Very true also when you say feed what we can afford and what suits our puppy's stomach. Glad the new food is suiting your Hollie.

Debs.....many thanks for your opinion also. And for making me chuckle.....being downwind to your Maisie sounds like heaven!!!!! Hope the new food agrees with her.

Plenty of options are building up for us regarding alternate food and we will be looking into them all over the next few days to reach a hopefully productive solution. Thank you everyone thus far. :)

Tony, I found it useful to contact the various companies by email and say that you are thinking of trying their products, they have all been really helpful and have sent lots of samples and information booklets. Just a thought to add to your "to do list"!

    Try Millies Wolfheart. http://www.millieswolfheart.co.uk/

Fabulous food and great philosophy behind the product. Good company to deal with, answer all question either by phone or on their facebook page. The kibble smells good enough to eat! Albert is 8 months now and has been fed on Millies since he was around 6 months and looks fabulous. I wish I'd discovered it sooner. 5* star rating on all about dog food too.

Hi Jan, hope all is good with Albert! Where has the time gone! Can I ask which at the Millies Wolfheart you feed to Albert?

Hi, we also use Millie's Wolfheart and have done since we got our puppy at 8 weeks as it can be used from weaning onwards. Our pup (now 16 weeks) loves it and has a very glossy coat, small firm poos and doesn't smell from either end! I give him the "gundog" mix.

Tony, I don't want to try and talk you into anything, but do take a look at the raw feeding board. I am a huge fan.

Tomal......really appreciate your input. Just an additional query. I've had a brief look at the Wolfheart website just to get a rough idea initially as to its operation and the food produced. Just wondering how we would know which mix to choose when just looking at the names, such as Gundog, etc. Foolishly i was expecting to see a Labrador Mix....would have made it so much easier. :)I am assuming they are all fine for labs otherwise we wouldn't be discussing here on this site. Maybe i need to literally look at each mix and the ingredients and overall details and ignore the Mix names.

Karen....You needn't worry about talking me into anything as i have my own mind and any decisions i make are made because i want to. I am more than happy to look at all options - my wife is leaving me to do all the research as apparently it is something i do well. We will then discuss all my findings and make our decision. Raw food isn't something we have considered, to be honest, but i see no reason to ignore it. :)

Hi, I can't remember why I chose that particular mix. I did a lot of research a couple of months ago as I wanted to chose the right food from the get go but I've forgotten now as I've been overwhelmed by all the other puppy issues! Sorry, that's not much help! The Millie's 50/50 mixes are cheaper than some of their other higher protein mixes though which is always a consideration! Their service is also very good as the food is delivered free of charge within a couple of days of ordering.

My two pups, 5 months old, are on a wheat free hypoallergenic chicken & rice kibble which has added glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM & omega oils. We are lucky that we have good pet food manufacturer locally so they have a huge choice of high quality food which are reasonably priced as we buy direct. They were on a Wagg Puppy when we got them from the breeder, which we heard wasn't great, and one of them started getting bald patches/itchy spots which we read could be caused by the cheaper food with wheat in it, so we gradually switched them to the new one and they have been great on it, their coats are thick and glossy, the itching has stopped and they have had no upset tummy issues.

Tomal....Not to worry. I will probably just spend a little time looking at each group until i get a clear picture of which would be the ideal mix if we take that route. The service certainly appears reliable which is always a positive.

Lou....Thanks for sharing your advice. Kibble food has been fairly high on my list since my research started, before i even posted my query on here. It does tick a lot of boxes, but i won't rule anything out until i have done all the necessary reading, sent a few emails and possibly even received and tried any samples. Again, thank you very much for adding some words to my post.

That is the best we can do. :) Looking back over what you said earlier about adding a sardine to Lemmy's food.....our Bud is only 3 months compared to Lemmy. Will a whole sardine, in your opinion, still be ok as i am thinking of trying this to see if it helps with the gas intrusions!! We have some to hand, and even though it could be said i am going against my own decisions to not feed Bud human food, if it aids in resolving a problem then i can excuse myself for that reason alone.

Lemmys only slightly older and has been on mixed since 8Weeks so I'd say suck it and see. As stated above the sardine breath isn't what I'd advise on a first date but our lovely labs seem to love them so Lemmy will be indulging for time being god help us when its kissy time.

Anything Lemmy can do...apparently Bud has decided he can do also as he wolfed down his sardine accompaniment yesterday evening as though he hadn't eaten for weeks. Obviously will see over the coming days if it has any overall effect on him but if the worst is a new scent to his breath then i guess we can't really complain.

He certainly enjoyed. I didn't ask actually if it matters which of the variety of sardines we use? (They come in sauce, brine, oil etc and i am not certain if any are less healthy.) Either way, what he is currently eating is going down really well.
