So, Digby's worst trait is (in typical labrador fashion), the need to bound across large distances to say hello to anyone or any dog. So, have decided to attempt some long line training, to encourage him to come back to me for permission to go off, rather than just charging miles away from me.
Well, first of all you would have laughed so much if you could have seen me, these long lines are not the easiest thing to use. The grass was very long, I am obviously completely inept and I got tied up in so many knots Digby just kept stopping to look at me as if I was mad. So much for the "invisible" line that the dog isn't aware of.

Anyway, a labradoodle coming our way, he started to go and I called his name - no response so I stepped on the line. I then recalled him and after a few seconds of thought he actually came back - result - so I praised and released him as his reward - quick play with labradoodle.

Could see another black dog on horizon, Digby sees it, ears prick up, starts to go, no response again so step on line. I recall him again and this dog just flies across the field all the way up to Digby for a play...not much I could do about it, he got his reward without coming back. Turns out its another 9 month old black lab, a bitch, and so we abandoned training and walked all round the fields together - the 2 youngsters had a marvellous time and Digby is now completely exhausted. :)

So much for my attempt at training - try again tomorrow.

    Ha, that is funny.

If all dogs were Labradors there wouldn't be a problem :) Everyone would just run up to everyone and have a rollicking good time.

Hope Take 2 goes well tomorrow! :)
