hi everyone i am at my wits as Milo now 5 mths old still nips and bites and won't take NO for an answer he just gets more excited. ANY SOLUTION PLS . Most of the time he is so good.
Re: never ending biting and nipping Gypsy still has her over excited crocapup moments at 5 months old. I find putting the lead on indoors really helps her to settle at these times (usually after the evening meal).
Re: never ending biting and nipping Ah Chrissie....you won't be out of the woods just yet at 5 months but you are nearly there.... If NO doesn't work ,just stop all play immediately ...if he persists after you ,put him away from you until he calms down .....we got Dexter at 5 months and he really wasn't bad but he could forget himself if he got overexcited playing with us .....that's all we did and he soon got it x
Re: never ending biting and nipping Elsie is almost through the crocapup stage but if she forgets herself I just pop a toy in her mouth to chew and say no hoomans and she settles down with her toy and is back to nearly grown up girlie again. Only happening occasionally now so almost there.
Re: never ending biting and nipping We are quite lucky that our crocopup Barney stopped biting weeks ago and now just mouths, with an occasional nip from excitement. I distract him with a nylabone or their new fav toy, a stick shaped chew that has real wood in. Barney has been teething terribly, which i think makes him snapoy, so i have been giving him ice cubes, he loves to play with them and then crunches them and they seem to help his gums. We did the immediately ignoring and turning our backs on him, which he hated and also the yelping. Jack, however has rarely bitten us, even when we first got them. Lou x
Re: never ending biting and nipping So glad this has been brought up. Just about at my wits end with Rolo. We have great days, good days and days like today where I am in despair. He is so so nippy and mouthy. I tell him no and then he barks at me (Rolo is normally silent other than at puppy school). I don't know what has got into him today it has been non stop. He is 14 weeks old, silly question but is this because of his teeth? I am replacing my arm, my foot, my sons foot with one of his many chew toys but to no avail. I have just given him an ice cube which he enjoyed. Help please I'm at my wits end. Kris
Re: never ending biting and nipping I'd be following Angela's (Dexter's) advice to the letter - instantly stop all play for any biting and, if you need to, pop the pup in another room with the door shut for half a minute (or until calm and quiet). It's also really important to stay calm. Any kind of loud reaction or pushing away or excited movements from you can be interpreted as play by the pup which which actually reinforce (encourage) the biting. I know it's really terribly frustrating and painful but just persevere with the steps Angela described and you really will get there!!
Re: never ending biting and nipping This can be a very tough time for new puppy owners. Biting often peaks at 3-4 months, when it persists, it is often because there is a lot of physical play, handling, going on, and puppies are getting over-excited. Puppies often see many kinds of physical contact as play. There is a lot information, and links to more information at the bottom, in this article. Hope you find it helpful
