WOW! I just had the most AMAZING sit/stay from little Willow!

I needed to go into our bedroom to get a pile of dirty washing. Willow LOVES our bedroom. She's not allowed in there, so when she follows me in, she goes absolutely bonkers, jumping on the bed and acting the hooligan. However, in the mornings, the ferrets have free run in there because Willow isn't steady enough to trust with them just yet. So, there was no way that she could come in with me to pick up the washing.

I would normally crate her for a few minutes but I thought I'd try putting her in a sit whilst I opened the door. I've never done a sit in the hallway before, so that in itself was a new experience. I expected that, as soon as I went through the door, she would come running up to it, but NO! She sat there, perfectly, while I went through the door, closed it behind me, picked up the pile of washing and came back out. I was ASTOUNDED! She got a nice bit of roast chicken for that! What a little star :)

Haha, they'd gone to bed in J's sock drawer by then, so I wasn't too worried ;)

It wasn't a fluke! We've just had a little training session and she did it again (albeit this time, because I was training and taking it easy, I took it in stages and didn't close the door fully). I think it obviously helps that there's glass in the door, but I'm still taking this as a massive step forwards :)

I love my little black monster!

Well done Willow! My boys do this at the dog gate into the living room, I say wait and they just wait even when the gate is open! Something our old lab would never do, often resulting in a headbutt to the shin as you walked through - ouch! They don't do it anywhere else yet, but I'm happy with the gate for now :D

Don't be silly, Louise, I'm sure you're doing brilliantly with BibertyBobittyBoo. Damn, I wish I had a dog called Bob.

    That's fab - what a good girl :) A good sit/stay is a very handy thing!!

Taking it slow and actively training this in gradual steps is the way to go to ensure you really build a strong behaviour :)

I know it's nothing compared to what lots of the other dogs on here are doing, but I feel it's so important to get all these basics really well cemented (until teenagedom hits and everything falls apart). It's silly how excited we can get over the smallest achievements. But I've never had a dog that would do that before, so I'm proud of us both :)

tee hee! We came up with it so quickly we doubted ourselves at first.. spent an entire weekend trying to think of something else, then went back to Bob again.

    well done willow.
on the subject of nick names, my brain always adds "-the-wisp" to the end of willow's name ;)

I hadn't even thought of that!! Haha! And we joke, when she's having one of her piranha moments, that "her naughty twin sister" has taken over. I couldn't come up with a decent name for her. But it's obvious now. Willow-the-Wisp and Evil Edna!!! :D
