In browsing through recent threads, saw a few posts about the nonstop biting in the beginning. I was one of those just a couple months ago. Just wanted to share what worked for us. When Rue was in her biting phase, yelping, turning our backs, and putting a toy in her mouth didn't help the problem, so we started putting her in timeout every time it happened. We kept an old pet carrier in whatever room we were in that wasn't used for anything other than timeout, and every time she would bite us, we would say 'timeout' several times as we put her in the carrier. Usually, we'd leave her in there for 30-60 seconds.

But it really helped with the biting. Any time she would start biting, we would say 'timeout' and she would immediately stop and start licking instead. So withdrawing attention and separating ourselves was the ONLY thing that helped us. I'm sure part of it was also losing her little razor teeth. I can't tell you how happy I was when she lost her first tooth.

I know every dog is different and it probably takes some trial & error to find out what works.

So glad that phase is over. Pure misery! I don't miss the bloodshed.

Wow that's a really good idea. Our 'timeout' is the kitchen, we have a baby gate seperating the dining room and kitchen and when I'm in the lounge Rolo comes in there with me (never on his own!) so his space is the kitchen when he gets too much with the nipping and biting he is put in there which obviously means no attention bit not much of a 'punishment' I suppose. We have his old crate that i could use bring it in the lounge and then not only is he losing out on attention from us he can see he has been seperated from us. Anything is worth a try for goodness sake.

Thank you for making me feel better, so many things that have been a concern for me after support from you guys has seemed like nothing at all.
