Rock is now 1 year old. An amazing dog! Lovely and caring with everyone and everything. Love him to death.
I would just like your opinion guys about his cross... because I can tell hes not pedigree by his ears, jaws and also he has got a funny zig zag on his back by his tail.
    Thanks 8)

Re: Question on what my Lab is mixed with.

Hello there and welcome to the forum.
There is a huge variety in labradors' appearances.
The zig-zagging down the back is very common and has been nicknamed "the zipper" :D
Lots of pedigree labs have small and back-set ears.
Was he bought as a pedigree? Or do you know him to be a cross for definite?
I think determining the origin of "crosses" if mostly guesswork.
If you told me Rock was a pedigree lab I wouldn't be questioning you.

He hasn't got pedigree paperwork plus he was cheaper than the pedigrees advertised.
Also he's the 'smallest' lab I've ever seen for his age lol bless :p

So long as you love him that's all that matters. :)

Lots of working line labs have sort of (very cute!) sticky out ears! ;D

Could be a touch of Saffie; but he could also be pure Lab. You can have a DNA test to find out :) My Lab (KC Registered) has a slight look of a Staffie and has a long upward curling tail. They all look different.

I don't know if he's crossed with something or not, but I think he's gorgeous. Love the zigzag! :)

    He's lovely!

There is a DNA thingie where you can find out the breeds - I saw it on Paul O'Grady, I think.

I wish they'd had the testing when I had my lovely Boogie - he was Heinz 57 and lived to a very healthy 19 years old. You see none like him these days - he was born when dogs and bitches roamed the streets, mating willy nilly. I got him from Batterersea Dogs Home.

    :)

I think he looks lovely. If he is crossed with anything it either looks very much like a Lab already or it's deeply buried.

He's very handsome and I agree with Stacia he does look as though has a bit of Staffie in his face. It doesn't matter at all, I have 2 cross breeds and love them to bits, pedigree isn't everything :) x

The first 3 pics, a slight hint of staffie maybe the way he's holding his ears? But every other pic I'd had thought pure lab. And for definite purely gorgeous! What a stunner. My two can look different breeds just with different expressions on their face, different ways of sitting etc. The zig zag you mention on his back, I've seen in many pedigree labradors.

Pongo is pedigree, and he has a zig-zag just like that (only not quite so long - I'm rather jealous of Rock's - maybe Pongo's will extend with age!)

If you browse around the forum I think you'll see plenty of lab pups with faces and ears like Rock. He is absolutely beautiful, and I love how expressive his ears make him!

Holly is quite small and has a nice zigzag. Her pedigree is fairly solid working labs. It's not uncommon to get some variety in working lines as they're bred for performance, not for looks.

I know this is old, but I have helpful input - from the shape/set of the eyes, ear shape, and squarish muzzle - as well as the splashes of white I think I see- I'd say he is crossed with an American pit bull. Google some pics :) As I'm sure most people here are aware, pits are very sweet dogs with undeserved bad reps.

As a previous Staff mummy, I'd say that's what it is. Regardless, he's absolutely gorgeous!!! And my staff was the best dog in the world, such a gent. Xx

There is a huge variation in what a Lab looks like. Molly is a working line dog and is so slim and athletic that sometimes I am asked what she is as people do not recognise her as a Lab.

He's got the Lab "smiley face" so beyond that I wouldn't care.

My last girl was such a complete mongrel that I used to say "It is rude to speculate about a Lady's parentage".

My Rocco's working lines too, he's long and lean. I think a lot of people imagine labs are all short and stocky X
