Re: Sad Pongo Pongo says thankyou to everyone. He's just moping round the house whining quietly. I don't think he can sleep in the cone lying down. ... he keeps falling asleep sat upright and then jerking awake! It would be funny if it wasn't so pitiful. ..
Re: Sad Pongo Poor Pongo. Can you get hold of one of those soft cones? Charlie spent nearly a month in a "comfy cone" and was fine in it - he used it as a pillow, basically. We did know in advance that we'd need it though so got used to it.
Re: Sad Pongo I'm assuming the cone is so he can't scratch it. :-\ Could you perhaps take the cone off when you are with him to keep an eye on him. ??? Hope it all heals quickly poor thing.

Hope it all heals quickly poor thing. [/quote] Thanks Jen. We tried taking it off earlier today - immediately he was trying to worry at his cheek with his back paw. Cone back on. I think I'm going to try again this afternoon.... I'd just like to see him get some decent rest! :-\
Re: Sad Pongo Bud sends comforting licks and cuddly paws if they help at all. He says be strong and let the healing process run its course. He'll back to form in no time. I also send a big warm hug.
Re: Sad Pongo Poor Pongo. Have you any idea how he cut his face? Hope he improves soon. It's worth persevering with the cone so that he can't reach the cut. Tuppence had to wear the hard 'buster' cone and the soft inflatable one together when she cut her leg badly earlier on this year. It meant moving furniture out of the way and confining her downstairs, initially to one room, but she got used to it. It seemed endless, about 4 weeks in all. She even managed in her crate too. Not something I want to repeat, though! She had to be lead-walked in the garden only and the big cone seemed to amplify her sniffing, making her sound like a train!
Re: Sad Pongo Pongo's very grateful for all the kind thoughts! The infected area seems to be drying out a bit now, and getting towards the 'scabby' stage - which is all good news. It obviously isn't hurting him so much, either, because right now he is laid flat out (with the cone on) on his 'sore' side.... first time he's been able to do that. I think he's getting some sleep at last - hooray. We've been taking the cone off for an hour or so like Jen suggested (keeping an eagle eye on him in case he goes for a scratch!) and today took him out for a very short walk for the first time without the cone so at last he could get some good sniffing done. Happiest puppy in the country then! Thanks for all the nice messages (in honesty I'm sure I've been more upset about it all than Pongo is.... I really hate having to put his ointment on it every day because it obviously hurts him - Paul has to get him held down in a half-nelson so I can do it ! :-\ ) Rosie
Re: Sad Pongo I do hope he is feeling a bit better. Pongo's tale of woe to Bud almost had me in tears. Hope you are okay too Rosie :-\

Re: Sad Pongo Thanks everyone. Poor old Pongo! It is just so sad when you know they don't understand why they have to wear nasty cones and have their sore bits rubbed. He is actually being very tolerant.... he'll sit quietly while we put the cone back on him, even though he obviously hates it. I'm frankly amazed that he is forgiving us for what we're doing! (Possibly because we're feeding him rather a lot of lovely treats. Milk the sympathy, Pongo.) He is now fast asleep and cone-less on the carpet, lying sore-side down, and dreaming noisily, which is (I think) a really good sign. We'll have to put his cone on again overnight, but I'm hoping it can be off most of tomorrow as long as we can keep an eye on him. He has stopped trying to scratch, anyway.... (I hope that isn't famous last words...) Rosie
Re: Sad Pongo Poor Pongo - treats help, and they do forget all about it once it's over. Sending tummy rubs...
Re: Sad Pongo Hope it's all better soon for Pongo. You're right, it's probably just as painful for us watching them trying to cope and not understanding what's wrong.
Re: Sad Pongo Glad to hear he's on the mend. Even more important he doesn't scratch at it now that it's scabbing over though as you don't want him taking the scabs off and delaying healing!! Hopefully he's getting used to it now and won't mind it for a few more days!
