So hollie is 15.5kg and skinners say to feed 375-450g for 5-6 month old weighing between 15-20kg. How much would you feed your pups? And how should we reduce her to 2 meals she is 5.5 months Thanks muchly

I try to keep Charlie at a weight that my vet approves of - which means a weight at which you can see almost all of his ribs clearly when he is sniffing and turning, and can see the end rib when he is stood straight. This is "on the thin side of normal" and my vet considers long and hard before agreeing (I have to prompt him) that Charlie doesn't need to be any thiner. : To do this, I feed 60% of the kibble amount recommended on the packet, plus training treats which is mostly chicken, which doesn't seem to put weight on Charlie.
Re: kibble question I`ve found that most dog food manufacturers will over estimate amounts to feed , so I have always erred to the very low end of the lower amount , slimmer being far better than fatter I put Sam onto two meals a day at around six months old but he missed his lunch so had a very small handful of food which I then deducted from the overall amount , its trial and error some of the time x
Re: kibble question We've had a similar dilemma with Jack and Barney, I think they will be around 25kg when we go to the vets this week, they were 21kg a month ago. They have 450g kibble in 3 meals, this has dropped from 500g up to 5 months which was less than the recommended amount. The top of that range is now around 375g as they are over 5 months, which seemed such a drop that we just dropped it by 50g. I think we may need to reduce further as although they have a distinct waist and an uptuck, ther ribs are barely visible at any time and you have to press quite firmly to feel them....? What do people think? They don't look at all fat, and they are very active as there are two of them they chase each other round and round the garden. :-\ Lou x
Re: kibble question If you are taking Jack and Barney to the vet anyway, the best thing is to ask the vet what s/he thinks - I've yet to meet a vet that isn't more than happy to give an honest assessment of a dog's weight! ;D ;D ;D My vet prefers his Labradors thin. Starving to death, more like, says Charlie.
