Re: Bones! Lucky Rolo! We give Pongo raw bones, just as is. Not huge ones - especially not to start with. We keep them in the freezer, so apart from the day we actually come back from the butcher he gets them frozen. This is better in some ways because they don't leave any mess on the floor.
Re: Bones! Well if I was you they'd be covered in a marinade and slow cooking in my BBQ ;D Alternatively, you can separate them into single ribs or pairs of ribs if they are joined together. If already separated just give him a rib

Re: Bones! Haha, Willow did this the first time I gave her a whole raw king prawn. She played with it for ages (outside, so it didn't get prawn juice over my floors) before scoffing it up. Hope he enjoys it

[/quote] When Pongo gets a bone (or any other really special treat) he grabs it and runs madly round the house with it then takes into his very very very special corner to eat it in SECRET. Because we obviously want to steal it. ;D

She pounces then walks around a bone with her tail wagging and repeats several times then gets stuck in. She can't tolerate lamb bones for some reason but other bones seem fine.

Re: Bones! If he's been working on the same bone for that long then it's best to take it away Bones dry out and get harder, which is not good for teeth. Basically I'd take anything away that is left at the end of the day. Perhaps next time try softer bones - so, lamb ribs, rather than beef ribs. We feed lamb ribs fairly regularly and Obi eats up the lot
Re: Bones! Oh don't worry!! It's quite possible that Rolo is just a very gentle chewer, which is why he hasn't made much of a dent in the bone. If he is a gentle chewer, rather than a power chewer, that is GREAT as that means he is unlikely to ever go at anything so hard that it will be a risk to his teeth My dogs have always been power chewers who will work all the harder when they meet resistance (and I've had broken teeth to deal with as a result, learning the hard way..). So I just play it super safe and go for soft, chompable bones. Giving raw bones is a great thing to do, so you absolutely have not done anything wrong, but just experiment with different softer bone types (try the lamp ribs, also chicken, rabbit, turkey, fish, oxtail, lamb neck, duck...) and see how he goes
