We find the tree is ok. It's the wrapped presents that get it! :D

We will be getting our tree this weekend from my friends farm, we also get to feed their reindeers, so excited! But our little Ozzie is an 8 month old chocolate lab, who always finds the biggest stick possible on walks, and seems to have hit teenage years at the moment, so I'm not sure how well this is going to do, but I love christmas and I have to have a tree! :)

We might take him with us to pick the tree then at least that might give us a rough idea of how crazy he will be :) Will post you a picture of him with the reindeers :)

Good luck everyone, Hopefully we will all have a very successful christmas with no problems or expensive vet trips :)

Well i've just tried putting the christmas tree up, i left it up half an hour to see how he was with it before i decorated it, i can now say that it is back in the box upstairs :'( Buster kept going up to the tree sniffing it then bitting and pulling it, so my decorations this year consist of a bit of tinsel over the mirror. Oh well there always next year.

Just put ours up, with Jack and Barney in the same room for the whole time! They kept opening one eye to look at what I was doing, but couldn't be bothered to get up and investigate. Barney then laid on the sofa right next to the tree, with his head over the arm of it, having a sly nudge and sniff of the baubles, but that's all so far......this will be a perfect target for their 'leave it' training, so I shall keep a treat tub in the same room too

Popped our tree up.....it's our usual classy effort, ably assisted by Lizzie in the decorating this year

And we've parked Lizzie's car as the perfect Clumber barrier!

    A nice cheerful tree :D
I love the children to help. Always a bit doubtful about the results though ;D
    Yours looks lovely.
I need to do a major tidy and clean before even THINKING of the tree.

We've gone HUGE this year with our tree, it's massive! But Bob is ONLY allowed upstairs into the lounge when we are up here too so is supervised at all times.. So figure we can get away with it. Hopefully!

;D I always get a live tree and plant it in my yard. It's been over the last 10 years. Maybe we should just deal with it with Louie. I work at home and the tree is in the room I work in. Hmmm. Do your labs normally go after any ornaments. I think I'll skip the glass ones. Kathy C

So Miss Bella has had 2 opportunities with Christmas Trees so far. She helped me set up the one at the winery - this one goes on the floor, and she chewed on the bottom branches a bit...and grabbed a couple ornaments, but pretty quickly figured out I was serious with the "leave it" command. Might have helped that I threatened "you'll go in your box if you can't control yourself" ;)

But she pretty well got the hang of it.

By the time we went to put up the tree at home - she paid no attention at all and just slept on the couch while I decorated it. She is however, intrigued by the Christmas Teddy sitting on the chair....might be some more "leave it" work this evening.

    Love this thread.
We have a 3 month old lab, seven year old boy and a two week old 6 foot real tree :)

She's already pulled numerous lights, tinsel and decorations off, eaten through two sets of lights, thinks the water bucket is her drinking bowl, chewed up decorations my son made and pulled the whole thing over on top of herself once. This is all with her being crated at night/while we are out and blocking the bottom with huge Lego storage boxes :)

I just hope the elves aren't watching cos she'll get no presents this year!

The tree is up - no baubles yet.

Tatze had a little chew on two branches just to test if it was a real tree :)

Gypsy is not home yet (Monday) her first and last Christmas with us.

    It's up!!

I had to do a bit of 'leave it' especially for the cloth which covers the base - but all is well (so far!)

I will get a photo when I have tidied up!

    :)

Re: Anyone braving a Christmas tree?

We are! Zac was 10 weeks the day we decorated it and after working diligently with him on leave it and on your bed commands (along with lots of treats and the clicker) he was able to lay - OFF LEASH - while my husband and I and the two kids decorated it. I am stunned. Most of the time he is on the leash, so we can keep him away from things he shouldn't get into. But I was expecting him to have more interest in it then he currently does. We will see how it goes with the tree skirt - as he loves to wrestle with beds and towels.

Our "elf on the shelf" "landed" under the tree last night. Really didn't think this one through... will have to keep an especially close eye out today.
