It's 5am and I've actually had some sleep tonight! Put Izzy in her cage at about 10.30pm and she howled, cried, and wimpered for about an hour. After that I don't remember anything till about 1.30am when I woke and took her out to toilet. A little play and back in her cage, again crying a bit, but I fell asleep till 4.30. Again outside followed by breakfast and a play. She's just fallen asleep on the bed now so I'm going to leave her and get some more sleep. I feel we are starting to get somewhere!

Fantastic. A few hours sleep and we begin to feel human again. Rolo started whimpering at 6am today came down and found one of the socks in his crate (read my post 2 socks 1 day agh) didn't speak to him let him outside, rewarded him for toileting and then led him back in his crate and he nodded off for another hour and so did I. Till hubby got up. They are so quick to learn and if they get into the habit of a bit of play during the night it will happen every night.

So pleased you got some rest.

Wendy , I meant to say that it might be best not to play with Izzy when you have let her out , there is a risk that she will then associate being let out at some unearthly hour with it also being playtime :)

I never thought of that Katie, thankyou. In future i wont play. She didnt settle on the bed and was pacing, so took her out to toilet again which was what she needed! Put her back in cage and got another 2 hours sleep! Whoopee! Its funny how such simple things make me so happy!
So heres hoping today is peaceful! Ill be leaving her for half an hour this afternoon as taking Archie to vets for check up and jabs. Izzy will be going thursday!
Hope all you puppy people have a good day!!! Xx

Oh yes...don't make a fuss at all for middle of the night potty breaks. Just out, do your business, and back to bed. They usually settle back in pretty quickly.

Bella has figured out too that she doesn't really want to be up...just totter out, squat, and totter back...I don't even turn the light on anymore...we just go by moonlight and stumble back to bed.

Not been the best of days...tried settling Izzy in her cage a few times and she just howled and cried constantly. Id like her to go in there when we are eating our tea but its just so stressful! Im dreading tonight! Where am i going wrong?

Have you done any clicker training with her? Or thought about it?

When Bella was very young, we did some "click for quiet" training with her. It's great for when they are in a real state...because you can click right when they take a breath, and build from there. I know there are several articles about it. We did this for Bella...and also did some quiet in the crate training too...the reward was a treat and she had to be quiet before she could come out. Some combination of the 2 methods worked for us. She still occasionally throws a fit about being in her crate...but a quick refresher with the click for quiet and she settles down on her own.
