Poor miss Bella....finally got her to the vet with enough urine in her bladder to be able to do a sterile sample...but not enough that she got too excited and piddled first... Lots of crystals again, high protein, and other stuff indicating it is a bladder infection not just vaginitis. Sent the urine off for culture so we can get her on a medicine that will actually clear her up. In the mean time...some rhymadil for inflammation and a small bag of dry food for urinary health to try and lower her ph and decrease the crystals. Hope this is the last stretch for my little girl...been fighting this off and on for 4 weeks now.... :'

Re: persistent UTI I had a very similar problem with my two. The culture should tell them what the cause is and then she can get the right course of antibiotics. In our case they had ecoli in their bladder this needed a six week course of antibiotics. Synulox a broad spectrum antibiotic was all that was needed but it needed a long course which was why the usual 7 day course never worked. My dogs were on a urinary diet for struvite crystals as well. How old is Bella ? I ask because I was told a urinary diet doesn't sustain growth. I was told to mix it half and half with their puppy food. However it will depend on how long Bella needs to be on the diet and her age as to whether it could effect her growth. Don't worry I know what it's like and it does come to an end I promise.
Re: persistent UTI Oh poor girl! As Jen said though the analysis will allow them to see what type of infection it is so that they can give her the right antibiotics. Fingers crossed she responds quickly.

Re: persistent UTI Thank you for all your kind words. Bella is 15 weeks. While I know that we are headed in the right direction, I do feel bad for her...UTI infections are NO fun. I'm just hoping with the holiday, that we get our results quickly so I can get her started on meds again. We did 2 weeks of clavomox for the first round, which is a great broad spectrum...but apparently whatever superbug she has going on needs more than that. We brought her home at 7 weeks, and I'd be willing to bet she's been fighting it the whole time. :'( :-[ :'( :-[ :'( Bless her little heart, she does have good house manners despite the infections...we haven't had an indoor accident in several weeks....and we generally have at least 4 hours at a stretch....with a few longer 6 and 7 hour overnight stretches...but last night she was up every 2-3 hours. :-[ I went ahead and agreed to the prescription diet food, but have been mixing it with her other food...but I shudder when reading the ingredients...first thing on the list is CORN...and 2 other corn things in the top 6 or so ingredients... It's the most popular prescription line in the US, but knowing what I do about animal nutrition and premium foods....CORN shouldn't be in there at all.... When we did the urinalysis at 3 weeks post initial diagnosis - and 1 week post antibiotic course, she didn't have crystals, just the infection....so I'm betting whatever bug she has in there is causing the crystals more than her diet...but I'll play along for now. I'm going to order a supplement for her that is a more holistic approach with cranberry, blueberry, and a couple other probiotic ingredients and put her on that for a while. I'll let her finish this small bag of prescription food - at 50% of her daily kibble, put her on the supplement, and hopefully combined with a new antibiotic I can get her on the road to 100% recovered. I just hate when any of my fur babies isn't feeling well.... :'( :'(
