Loopyloo's post below got me curious.

How long do you spend on training each day? I usually do two 8-10 minute sessions a day with Rue. She's 6 months.

I aim for three or four five-minute sessions with each of mine, plus we always do some when they go out on walks.

It all depends on the individual pups attention span , I think I did about 15 mins twice a day at 6 months , often incorporated into play or whilst out on walks where we practiced recall and sit/stay often . Try to make it as much fun as possible with masses of praise for a job well done :) We started 1-2-1 gundog training when Sam was about 9 months old, he did love it but by the end of the hour, he was beginning to get pretty shattered so we cut the time to 40 minutes , have fun with it and your pup will do too :)

It does really depend on how much your are trying to train, I think. I've got a list as long as my arm of things I've got to be getting on with!

Charlie is two in February. We missed quite a bit of training, so are trying to catch up.

Training is divided into sort of "as we go" training on working walks, and training sessions.

We don't train every day, as some days I'm at work and can't do much.

When we have time though, we'll do 4 or 5 clicker sessions in the house a day, and about 45 minutes on the field. This is in addition to a couple of days of classes a month, and 3 weeks away each year.

Gypsy goes for a 40 minute training walk every day, on lead. We go in cafes restaurants, on buses trains and trams every week. Round shops and shopping centres at least twice a week and into paces (like Church) where she has to lie still and be quiet.

She also has several five minute sessions in the house.

All other training is 'as you go'. For example, they both do a 'down-stay' while I'm getting ready for our free runs :) This saves all sorts of 'helping' while getting socks on, laces tied etc.

I regard every walk as a training walk, there is always something to see and always something I want her to leave alone.

I have been lax of late, as she has been much better behaved (she is getting access of to more rooms, she is even allowed into the Lounge with the Christmas Tree). However, I have noticed that as I have slackened off from the sit, paw, wait etc it seems as if NOT having that formal training every day she seems to be 'trying her luck' a bit.

So it's back to brief training sessions several times a day.

Oh lord, I tried roll with Rue a couple times when she was younger, and it just wasn't happening at that point. I need to introduce it again! Go Bella!

Rue will down-stay for about 30 seconds tops currently. Something we are realllyyy working on. Much better than a month ago, though!

I have days where I slack too, but I try to stay on top of the training so as to keep her mentally stimulated/tire her out some.
