Can you put together a kind of 'business case' that'd set out how you're going to train your puppy and the standards of behaviour that you will expect from your dog, showing that you are going to be a responsible owner?

[/quote] I had in mind that the boss (who I assume owns the land) would have a conversation with the tenant about the need to control the dogs in 'public' places to allow everyone to have equal enjoyment of those areas. I don't imagine that any formal agreement would have to be invoked. Guess I am assuming that all parties are reasonable adults - often wrong to assume this of course!

The tenant is also a friend of theirs (and mine actually) so the dog issue has been a bit awkward - as a gardener I am constantly shooing them away from areas of the garden, and the owner often isn't around as she just lets them wonder when she's in the stables/out and about. It's difficult because she's a lovely person, but just simply doesn't train her dogs! Not even remotely! Two are lurchers and one has chased my cat a few times (he kills anything he catches). There is sort of good news. I told my boss I was very disappointed but I understood his reasons for not wanting anymore dogs running around, but that I would train mine impeccably, told him of the puppy class I'd found etc etc, but I found out he's also getting a puppy and he doesn't want his dogs running off with others. He said he'd have said no if the tenant had actually asked to bring back two more dogs (she didn't!) and although it seems unfair on me he just doesn't want any extras. It's his garden so I have to respect that, although it's a bit gutting! However, I think I have convinced him to let me take the dog into my potting shed, which is my hub for the day, for a few hours. And when I can't have him with me, he will be at home which is literally one minute walk from the main house, and my boss says I can take longer and more frequent breaks to go back and play with him. So although I won't have a companion at my heel all day, it's still better than none! Initially I didn't like the idea as I don't like leaving dogs alone, but if I can constantly pop back then perhaps it's ok. And a neighbour has said she will pop in too. And I have oodles of countryside to walk in and a big old garden to play in... Perhaps when he realises that this dog is THE BEST then maybe he'll relax a little and let me take him the garden a bit more. So I think I'll be back here asking all sorts of questions! Will think about it for a couple of days and if I decide to go ahead, I'll be viewing the pups this Saturday and promise to upload pics! Sally x

Re: Kibbles and treats?! YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!! This is GOOD NEWS! Aw, I know I'm just a weird internetty stranger person, but I was so sad for you and now I'm so happy! Yes, it's a compromise, but once you train your little doodle, he'll see what a delight it is to have around, and then he'll just want to see more and more of it, so you're definitely going to end up having your constant companion.
