Re: Managing the CONE Totally understand the need for a good cry, you poor thing. The only sensible response, I'd say. You must be thinking at this point that a Labrador rug would look pretty good in your lounge room. I would be thinking that. It's a major bummer that the incision has not healed enough to stay together You really are doing so well and we all admire you a great deal for the effort you are going to for Simba.
Re: Managing the CONE Kerryn, what a great idea! This afternoon the big boob (his alternate name around here ) was snoring away... I looked at my daughter and suggested a try at the ointment. Scratched his tum for a bit until he rolled onto his back and obligingly presented the target. I kept scratching, Sarah applied ointment, and Simba kept snoring. He woke once we stopped the tummy rub so I did some "clicker charging" with him. Managed to distract for the required time. I call it a success even though we didn't do the compress. Going to do the same tonight - he's almost down for the count for the night so we'll give it a go. He didn't lick at it too bad throughout the day, so here's hoping!
Re: Managing the CONE How about putting the ointment on and then scattering his kibble in the garden or yard so that he has to spend some time hoovering up every last piece.
Re: Managing the CONE Oh yes, Heidrun, that's a great idea. I know people who do regular kibble treasure-hunts! Sounds like progress has been made though
Re: Managing the CONE Good idea! I'm actually thinking about getting one of those Kong wobblers that dispense kibble ... Maybe that and a few more scattered around for a "treasure hunt"!
Re: Managing the CONE Amy loves her Kong we can fill up and the stuff falls out. Not the wobbler one, its more of a ball shape.
