Cupar lifted his leg this morning. He's still a baby. Well he's actually 8 months old next week but he's still my baby boy. last week for the first time he never came rushing back to the whistle. He was engrossed in the sheep poo. So we're back to basics with our recall training. I've taken to carrying the whistle around my neck, it's now my new necklace. He's also started looking for things to chew. So as he's now free range, has been for a couple of months as his crate is fine as a bed, but I felt I would need to buy a bigger one if he was to stay in it. So plastic milk cartons are now flattened by Cupar before recycling. On the plus side his concentration is getting better. He will sit for longer in stay posistion. Oh and most importantly he still thinks himself a tiny puppy, as he thinks my knee is where he should be able to curl up and sleep. He's about 22 kg now , he is small for 8 months but not small for my knee. I won't be able to post in the puppy part of the forum . So to all you new puppy carers make the most of all the good bits and try and laugh when their wee croco teeth bite you, because the time really does fly in and your wee bundles will be all grown up before you realise it.
Re: My baby is growing up They grow up so fast don't they? Was wondering when Rolo might start lifting his leg. Sorry if I'm being dim but how do they know to do these things. I suppose it's instinct. Duh! When did Cupar stop with the biting? Rolo still does it and he's 23 weeks old.
Re: My baby is growing up I think the worst of the biting was about 5/6 months. It was a couple of months ago my 3 year old granddaughter started to play with Cupar, because up until then she was scared from him. I'm fortunate I have a very tolerant older labrador that takes the brunt of his biting.

When he was smaller it seemed more playful now it just seems nasty. He doesn't just nibble when he's being played with, he just bites as you pass him or come in the room. Good job he's handsome.

This is only my opinion but I feel as humans we see certain things that dogs do in human terms. Dogs don't and can't communicate in the same way as us. Cupar would nip at Cassie and generally be a bloomin nuisance, just to get her to play. This maybe what Rolo is trying to do. I had issues with Cassie and the other dog she came with, so I'm more aware of how my dogs interact with each other. things will get better. You set the boundaries. If you don't want to play don't. You just need to structure their day so they have something else to think about. I don't mean going for loads of walks. Use his brain. That will help tire him out. Dogs may not think like us but I do believe they can get bored and each dog is different. If you find Rolo likes to fetch teach that, play hide the toy. I'm sorry I'm not vey good at explaining things, but I hope this reassures you a bit. Remember they do grow up really fast.

I have to sit on the sofa so he can snuggle in. I really am fortunate to get this cuddly dog.
Re: My baby is growing up Thanks Cupcase. We do have a way of putting human actions into dog things. "He looked so guilty" "He looked at me with sad eyes" nope he doesn't know what guilty is and he doesn't have sad eyes he just knows how to make us melt. Lol.

Every dog pees on it. Today, the spaniel from the farm was stood very firmly by "his" post. Charlie is a total coward, and wasn't going to challenge the spaniel. So slunk by, making himself very small. Spaniel deciding Charlie has been seen off, turns away to watch the next dog THAT IS NOT GOING TO PEE ON HIS POST TODAY. Charlie nips back and pees on the post behind the spaniel! Poor spaniel, he had nothing left (had obviously being peeing on his post a lot), so could only do a fake pee on top of Charlie's pee. Charlie was very pleased and trotted off with his tail high. ;D ;D ;D

He only cocks his leg when he is being a big boy and faced with lampposts. I dug the lawn up and put slate clippings down.
