Hi I have a 1 year old bitch named pip .. She's fab but obviously greedy!! We are very careful with what we feed her, but today I've managed to leave her dog food out and in the few minutes she had access to it, she has of course ate quite a substantial amount .. (Not sure of the amount) . I didn't know this had happened until tea time when I just tried to feed her, and surprised she didn't want her tea, she has drank lots of water and is becoming rather tubsy (she's usually very slender looking) and seems uncomfortable to find a position to lie in ... She is not distressed at all still wagging her tail etc.. Her stomach is rock hard .. I've googled over eating and the first thing I've seen is bloat !! Should I take her to the vet or just let her sleep it off ?? Any advice greatly received Thank you Rachael
Re: Dry dog food I don't know enough about it I'm afraid...but I have a rule, if I think "should I take my dog to the vet?", I take my dog to the vet. Best of luck with it, and welcome to the forum (sorry it's a worry that has brought you here though).
Re: Dry dog food I would call your vet NOW - if it is bloat they can go down hill rapidly I hope it isn't, but please check with your vet. Chloe
Re: Dry dog food Thank you, we have been to the vets, no sign of bloat just currently a very big hard tummy.. We have to give her Zantac and keep an eye on her. Like you said if if any doubt about going to the vets, then go to the vets ... Dog food now locked up !!
Re: Dry dog food So glad you went to the vet as I was really worried for you. Hope you don't have too much of a disturbed night ! Chloe
Re: Dry dog food Gosh, I was really worried too. Glad you have seen the vet. I would still keep a really close eye on her. A friend of mine has 2 beagles. They ate most of a 12kg bag of dog food one afternoon. They were like little barrels for a week. Don't think bloat is such an issue for the smaller beagles though. I do hope she is okay.
