Hi Everyone, Recently when we take Ozzie on walks, he has started drooling a lot and he doesn't drool at all normally really, Is this normal? Or does it mean something? Or do I need to do something? Sorry if this sounds a bit stupid but I don't know if its normal or not, Ozzie is my 1st puppy, I've always grown up with dogs but they were german shepherds and always Dad's dog really so we never really had much to do with the puppy knowledge really, just training classes with him.
Re: drooling when on walks Omg I can't believe someone has asked my question just as I was about to post it. Rolo only drools after eating but today and yesterday whilst walking it was really bad is this normal?

Rolo only drools after eating but today and yesterday whilst walking it was really bad is this normal?
haha! I can't believe you have a similar problem, Ozzie has never drooled really, but the last 6 days he has been drooling on walks, and its getting worse as time goes on, I googled it which sometimes is worst thing to do, but it did say it might be caused by pain, but I don't think he is in pain because its only on walks and he will let me check him over when we were out today, and wasn't bothered by me doing this.
Re: drooling when on walks We went a bit further today and yesterday and wondered if it was because he was more tired, more panting?
Re: drooling when on walks Not sure if this is the same with labs or not...but with some of the guardian breeds, when they are really trying to "scent" something...they tend to get more drooly....I wish I could point you to a source/article about it...but the "wet mouth" helps to intensify the olfactory senses (if I recall correctly) that would be my first guess...they are smelling something more interesting than normal...Both of my Anatolians have been like this...
Re: drooling when on walks Two boy lab boys, growing up, drooling on walks? They will be licking the pavement next! ;D ;D ;D
Re: drooling when on walks Really Julie T? We have become very interested in our own bits too. He's humped his own bed from a young age but it's getting more frequent and dare I say more intense. When can there be little Rolo's? I don't want little Rolo's not yet anyway still not decided about keeping him intact or not. Wil see how things go.
Re: drooling when on walks Yes - mine do it when they are running about on free runs and excited. It flies about everywhere and lands on their noses - white and foamy!
Well, it's quite young for Rolo yet, but lots of intact adult boy dogs drool while they sniff on walks. Charlie is moderately bad, not as bad as some. To get him to stop, I ask him to walk along without sniffing (when I can be bothered). Charlie was a late developer, and wasn't interested in girls for ages - not until he was over a year old, but I think that's very late.
Re: drooling when on walks Cocoa used to drool on walks. She used her nose a lot to investigate things and the smells seemed to set her drooling. It was quite normal for her to be walking along with inches of drool hanging from her jowls, often with bits of leaf and twig attached. We called it her "droolery".

Re: drooling when on walks Benson drools...and has strings of drool hanging down usually....runs along with his muzzle glued to the ground, snorting excitedly. It started when he was about 5 -6 months old, and did worry me initially, but it is perfectly normal. Benson is entire..and one thing he certainly isn't is a late developer.... : :
Re: drooling when on walks I was reliably informed that its just heightened senses , in other words excitement at new sights or scents . Sam used to drool terribly when we first started gundog training, pure eagerness, but he isn't too bad these days ,usually
Re: drooling when on walks Max drools at home often when he can smell food, on walks however he often froths/white foam in his mouth which he LOVES to shake off all over me! He only seems to do it after running or playing. Perhaps he's thirsty, I dont take water out with me now as its cold but in the summer I always do and he doesn't foam up then.
Re: drooling when on walks I have never had this problem with Bouncer. But it does sound quite common.
