Of late my posts have been more to encourage people that it all gets better but teenage labs are a handful at times. My 10 month old 'pup's' latest rebellion is when you stop playing fetch and put her lead on to come home she plays tug on her lead and leaps 5ft into the air with all four feet and I have to drag her home. She did this a bit as a smaller pup but only weighed 10-15kg so it was ok. Now at 24kg it's painful and mortifying. Am I doing the right thing by just carrying on homeward ignoring her behaviour? Or should I just stand still and ignore her? Or ask for a different behaviour in a hope to calm her down? She still sits to have a lead on and comes back when called 95% of the time. If she doesn't sit for collar or lead I just wait quietly for her to behave.
Re: Teenage Tantrums!! Perhaps do something calming in between the excitement of fetch and the disappointment of going home? Heelwork is a good idea........I'd go offlead so there wasn't anything to attack but equally you could try some other tricks and change it up each day like a weave through your legs, some hand touches or some circles. Anything really to help bring the excitement levels down.
Re: Teenage Tantrums!! Heel work on lead is quite unsuccessful currently but maybe some off lead heel work and weaves etc would be a good idea. Will have a try tomorrow. I do normally try to have some time between end of play and going home but perhaps more emphasis on this time would help. Thanks.
