My two are currently on Hills Science Plan - Large Breed Puppy, plus a mixture of raw, which probably amounts to about half of their diet.
I've never been entirely happy with the Hills, not because they don't do well on it, but rather because it isn't as good as some of the others in terms of ingredients, but it was the best I could get locally. I've just found out that I can get Burns delivered to a place about an hour's drive away and I'm tempted to swap because it's a much better food from what I can gather. They're five months old now, so they'd be on it for another four months before swapping to adult food, which I will be using Burns for anyway.

There's no cost implications - Burns is a few euros more expensive than Hills for a 15kg bag.

So, since they're settled with the Hills now, do you think I should leave it be and just swap when they go to adult food, or make the transition to Burns now?

The other consideration is that I have to order in bulk, so would be getting 24kg of it. So, if it doesn't suit them, I'm stuck with a whole load of doggy food!

I changed off Hills for the same reason plus I (naively) didn't really twig that the vets were getting a cut when I was just sitting there misty eyed over my cute first puppy. I've heard plenty of people recommend Burns but I can't say I've tried it myself.

Not much help I know ::)

Personally if they are doing well on it.. I'd stick with it until you move to the adult food.

Bob is on CSJ Little Champ and there are loads of negative reviews about it... it's cheap and there is a fair portion of 'filler' but he's healthy and happy so I see little reason to change it. Plus he gets bones and raw chicken every now and then to bulk up his protein intake. If he got ill or it was clear it started disagreeing with him, then of course I'd change. But food can be such a tetchy issue with dogs. What suits one dog, won't suit another - just like with us.

So my opinion would be if it aint broke - don't fix it!

I would tend to leave them be , and then when you switch to their adult food , just make the one change then , it would be a different matter if they weren't doing well on their current food , but as they are doing fine , leave them for now x

It's an hours drive away??? Ha a good mum!! :)

I'd probably just stick with it then move straight to adult one.

I fed my dogs when young on Burns and they went like toast racks, so skinny. If you look at ingredients I think rice is the first ingredient, so feeding the dogs mainly on rice.

Heh, well the closest place we can buy food is over half an hour away anyway, so getting a delivery to an hour away isn't too different, if I buy in bulk :)

I think you're probably right, just make one change when they're adults. I'll buy some more Hills in the meantime.
