Re: Scratching the ground after a pee Milly does it sometimes too and she also quite often moves away quite a bit before scratching. Never dirt shower proportions though. Only after number 1's not 2's
Re: Scratching the ground after a pee My male dogs always did it, especially if there were other males around. I always thought it had something to do with territory marking. Now Poppy has started scratching the ground after a pee too. Hmmm.
Re: Scratching the ground after a pee I've read about it somewhere. It is to do with scent marking. I Think I remember reading they have scent glands in their feet, although that doesn't sound right. :-\. I guess male and female dogs like to leave a scent. It probably gives off information to other dogs like urine scent, as in when the dog passed by, sex of dog etc.
Re: Scratching the ground after a pee Don't dogs sweat through their feet? So it makes sense there's scent there. Our last male (castrated) family dog would do this, but the bitches never have. My sister's (entire) cocker does, but the entire male Labs I know here don't. I guess it's down to the individual dog? Re: Scratching the ground after a pee Growing up I remember our bitches doing it after a poo. Mira used to do it after a poo, but now it seems she does it more often after a wee and sometimes even when she hasn't actually done anything, but has thought about it :
