I mentioned this on my maisie post but i thought i would make a separate thread. So I am currently changing her food, she was on beta puppy and I am changing her to skinners puppy lamb and rice. Shes still on 4 meals a day. I have started by doing a quarter of new food and 3 quarters old food, and have done for all meals today, and this evening she has been doing the smelliest farts! My husband said he gave her a bit of ham, but he swears it was only a little bit. Could this mea that shes not going to get on with the new food or is it too soon to tell? Also, she eats so fast! Early she basically inhaled it, and then regurgitated it up and ate it again which was wierd. Last question, does it matter that the skinners puppy food isnt large breed so the kibble is really small? It doesnt look like they do a large breed puppy. Any ideas?

As long as her poo is normal I wouldn't say it's the food change. I find some kibble a are really small whilst others are really big. As long as she likes it and it agrees with her I would stick to your plan to slowly change over :)

It's not about the size of the kibble.

Smaller breeds grow faster, and have a higher energy requirement (per kg of body weight) than large breeds. Small breed puppy reach maturity before large breeds, which can take 18 months to finish growing. And so on.

But unless you have a requirement for certain levels of calories, protein and so on, and you can find a wide variation in these levels in puppy/junior food, you don't have a basis on which to select a different food.

For most kibbles, Labradors are classed as a medium, not large, breed.

Re inhaling her food.....Cooper did exact same thing so, at advice of a friend, got slow eating bowls.....they are like a "maze" and he went from inhaling in 10 seconds to taking 5 minutes. I got them from Amazon buy am sure you can get them at your pet store. Go on-line and take a look at slow feed bowls. Good luck.

Willow had absolutely gruesome farts when we first had her! She had been fed Pedigree (ick) and I forgot to bring any home with me, so she went straight onto Hills. I don't know if it was the sudden change that made her particularly smelly, but it did settle down and now she very rarely trumps. I do feed their largest meal as raw, though, so that may also have had an impact, because I've heard it said it makes them less smelly.
Having said that, Shadow still does at least one parp a day and he's on the same food as Willow. Yesterday, it was a noisy one which startled him :D

I wouldn't worry too much about it for now; monitor her poo and see how that is. Her smelly bum may settle down with time.

I find my two eat their kibble a little more slowly when I put warm water in with it - not soaking it, just immediately before I serve it. The crumbs that come off the kibble make a sort of gravy, too, which they enjoy. Worth a try?
