Hollie is just over 7 months and has just come into season! !!She has been cleaning more but has now started to bleed and drip every where. How long does the bleeding last? How long can I not walk her in the doggy population? Is there anything I should be doing for her? Her vulva isn't swollen but reading up it doesn't always? ?? Is this correct? Re: I think hollie has come into season!!!!! Oh, your little dog is growing up! Don't worry, it's not terrible. She will probably bleed for about two weeks, after which the blood will turn light pink and watery - but then you need to be doubly vigilant for a few days, as that will be her most receptive time. Please be aware that dog semen can live for up to a week, so you need to protect her from unwanted male advances prior to this time, too. To be completely sure, you should only walk her on the lead for the next three weeks, and during the particularly dangerous time I would be inclined only to exercise her in the garden. She may be a little more clingy than normal, or a bit more stand-offish. She may pee more, and go off her food. All will be well. The main thing is, keep an eye on her, be attentive and kind but don't make too much of a fuss. After the season is finished, watch out for any vaginal discharge, particularly if it smells or she seems off colour, and if anything seems not right, take her to the vet. It'll be over soon, and don't worry, it's a completely natural cycle, most female dogs just take it in their stride.
Re: I think hollie has come into season!!!!! Good advice from Karen Harley went off her food during her season quite a bit and became a lot more clingy. We walked by main roads throughout her season (on lead) and for 10 days after the bleeding stopped. If I saw another dog approaching I would cross the road or call out that she was in season. We walked every day for about half hour - she would of gone loopy without her walks.

My vet and I agreed to have Willow spayed before her first season, but he would rather do her at seven rather than six months. So now I'm worried that she'll come into season before her op, which would be really not what we want, with an entire dog in the house! Maybe I'll schedule her in just before she's seven months rather than just after? Sorry to hijack, I hope Hollie gets through it peacefully x
Re: I think hollie has come into season!!!!! If you do take Hollie out, best get in the car and drive some distance away where there are not any other dogs. If you walk her from home you will get attention from male dogs!
Re: I think hollie has come into season!!!!! Yes I think the attention from other dogs has started as we had a nice dog poo outside our back gate obviously left her a present! !!!! Have stocked up on kongs and boxes for entertainment I really don't want to risk it and also I feel for the young men with her scent everywhere.
Re: I think hollie has come into season!!!!! You are being very responsible and thoughtful. Fiona, I think anywhere between around 6 months and a year is pretty average for the first season. I think Pops was 8 months old first time.

Oh bless her , all grown up Good advice from Stacia , I tended to walk Millie away from our home when possible , also took her early morning and later in the afternoon when less dogs around . Bear in mind that bitches can be just as ardent as dogs in their quest for a mate , Millie turned into a proper little trollop
Re: I think hollie has come into season!!!!! I am also freaking out: Chepi's spay is booked for about 2.5 weeks time when she will be 9.5 months. We are sailing close to the wind!!! I am hoping she won't come into season before then as I have nobody to look after her if she can't do day care :-\ Best of luck with Holly - hope it all goes ok for the two of you

Re: I think hollie has come into season!!!!! Meg was 8 months and lasted about a month. She was quiet for the first week or so then quite lively for the rest. I kept her at home as did not fancy unwanted attention. I think she would have been quite happy to have some. Ww have plenty of land so it was not so bad. She will be spayed in march. Hope you girl gets on ok
