We moved to a new house over Christmas and for the first couple of weeks all was fine. Last week Nero started barking in the night when we go to bed.

To start it was only for one night and for the rest of the week he was fine but he has done it for the last 2 nights in a row

At night he is locked in the kitchen the same as what we used to do in the old house. He goes to bed about 11.30pm and is fine for around d 15mins but then he starts barking and trying to open the kitchen door. We have been ignoring him and the barking usually stops after around 15mins but then in the middle of the night it will start again

As our new house is a new build the walls are very thin so his barking is waking us up in the night

Any advice or ideas as to why he has started doing this? He never barked in the night at our old house

There might of been some sort of noise that spooked him and he is now a bit wary? Maybe a neighbour slammed a door, or he heard something outside? You could try putting a radio on low for him for a few nights and see if that helps?

Forgot to mention our neighbours next door have 3 dogs and 2 of them are kept outside in the shed so maybe its them he can hear.

Sounds like that could be the reason, especially as it's a new house with new sounds and smells.
Is there a room at the front of the house Nero could sleep in? Might help with dogs being in the garden next door :)

We do but I would not trust him as he may chew furniture etc. We keep him in the kitchen as there is not much there he can damage (apart from a radiator thermostat which he has already destroyed!)
I think we will try leaving the radio on quiet for him and see how he gets on

Our dogs bark at night occasionally..only if they hear another dog though.

Was wondering could you use a crate temporarily somewhere where he can't hear the dogs? At least it might prevent a real barking habit forming and he may feel safe and comfy in a crate :)

For the last 2 nights we have been closing the door into the utility room which leads to the back door (he usually has the run of the kitchen and utility room) and he has been fine

    Fingers crossed
