Bella ended up on end of my bed when she was very unsettled and night crying but I don't want her doing this as a big lab so it's not fair to continue this way , so she's now in my room in her own bed - compromise. :)

No, Charlie doesn't sleep on my bed, he lets me sleep in his bed. :)

That looks like Louis last night. First 30 minutes he was sleeping like that along side my pillow ;D

He earned a lot of cuteness points when he then changed position and went to sleep with his head resting on the head of my sleeping girl friend.

How does she do with this? I would love to start decrating Rue at night and have her sleep on a bed in our room.

She's still zipped in - fabric travel carry crate - not ready to let her roam free just yet :)

Re: Does your puppy sleep in your bed?

Maisie started off in the crate. She did not like this arrangement. She wanted to play at four am. She took 15 minutes to settle back to sleep after a potty break (and she would have 2-4 per night). Quite torturous. So one night I plopped her on my bed and it turned out she woke up much less while sleeping on my bed (1-2 times per night) and so she stayed on there all night for awhile.

Then I spent a lot more time working on making her crate the best place to be in the world, making her enjoy it a lot more, and all of a sudden one night she just wouldn't settle on my bed, so I chucked her in her crate with a Kong chew toy (that pink bone shaped one with a couple kibble stuffed in either end) and lo and behold, she just went to sleep!! So then after that, she's spent the majority of the night in her crate. If she wakes up and needs to go out before I'm done sleeping (6-7 usually) then she gets to sleep on the bed with me for the rest of the night. I like this arrangement a lot better for when my boyfriend sleeps over, etc, and she can be quite a space hog sometimes which I imagine will only get worse! I think this helped her in her crate… she is rarely in a hurry to get out in the mornings - this morning she actually sat there for a bit, then took out her chew toy and started chewing on it - after having been in her crate from 10.30 pm to 8.00 am.

Here are some photos of her enjoying being in the human bed though (hope the links work:(

Bed ownership is still being negotiated.

Lilly owns our bed during the day when we are out although sometimes swaps it for Sophie's upstairs.
She is allowed up at night but gets evicted at lights out. Goes off to her own bed when told. She will stay all night if one other of us are away. Or sometime at the weekend but she often goes off after an hour or so. Comes back in the morning when we are stirring.

No, they sleep downstairs - because I am such a light sleeper!

Nope, never. All my dogs have been happy and settled downstairs. Current pup loves her crate :)

No chance of ours getting on our bed. The last thing I need is two more (big, hairy, fidgety) things disrupting my already tenuous grasp on sleep! :D

Re: Does your puppy sleep in your bed?

I tried letting Daisy sleep on the bed, but she's such a bed hog that I end up balanced right on the edge of the bed! Trying to move a deliberately inert 55 pound mass is not easy, so I eventually made her sleep on the dog bed with Henry. I've always had my dogs sleep in the room with me, and they've always had very cushy beds with lots of blankets to mush around. After a spayed female had three episodes of urinary incontinence on my bed, I decided the floor was where the dogs belonged! They look very cosy, all snuggled up together, so I don't feel the least bit guilty. Really, I don't. Really!

I did encourage Henry to sleep on my bed last week when Daisy had thrown up twice in the dog bed ( what does she eat??). After I cleaned it up, he just looked at the dog bed, then looked at me, like, "Really??" Daisy, however, had no problem curling up on the refolded bedding... :D

When Daisy was sick a few weeks ago, I had her on the bed overnight so I could monitor her more easily. I guess my policy is flexible! It can be awfully nice to snuggle with them, though...

    I tried it but ended it for 2 main reasons;
    1. She doesn't always settle and, as a light sleeper and the only one looking after her, I need my sleep
    2. She's also a bed hog

Re: Does your puppy sleep in your bed?

I would love for Gabby (8 months old) to sleep in the bed, but we have tried it a couple of times and she will get up in the middle of the night and start chewing toys and making noise. I am also afraid she will start chewing the furniture or other items she is not allowed to chew so she still sleeps in her crate. Hopefully when she gets a bit older, she will be able to sleep in the bed. My older cocker spaniel slept with me every night until she got arthritis and could no longer climb the steps I bought her to get into the bed. I do miss having a dog to sleep with! :)
