Louis has been with us for 3 weeks now and is one week away from his 3 months birthday. When he came he was very happy with his food because he did not know the world of treats from his puppyhood at the breader. However, I have been clicking and treating and it seems like over the last weeks he has become less eager about his "real" food. I suspect he is waiting for treats because only end of day he then launches over his food. We are feeding him by the hand or the floor to make sure he does not eat too fast. We were just at the vet for exam and third vaccine and I explained the food situation. She recommended to split his food into 4 servings and give him the first serving early in the morning and let him have it available for 1h, then remove it. 2nd serving 3 hours later, available for 1h etc etc. The purpose would be to teach him there are meal times and that is when he can eat. If he doesn´t there are no meals in between. Also, treats should be really small so they do not fill him up at all, just giving him the taste (have probably made too big treats) Thoughts? Andreas
Re: How to avoid that Louis waits for treats and only eats his "real" food EOD? Are you not using his biscuits from his allowance as his treats? I tend to half Bella's meal allowance and use half for training treats. She loves it. Chicken and cheese are introduced for recall training

Bella went through a stage where she wouldn't hardly eat her meals either unless it was in a game...went on for a couple weeks, then she hit a growth spurt and was HUNGRY... I just try to remember that their first couple months are such an adjustment full of change and new things, and it takes a while to figure out consistency in a routine...what to expect and what to get away with!

Also If you're feeding him by hand ....maybe he doesn't know the difference? Try using his bowl ;D
