Just out of interest , do you think that you can tell if a dog is male or female just by the face ? I was looking through some photos of my old girl Tess and to me, she looked every inch a female just as much as Sam looks male, or is this just because we know what they are, if that makes sense
Re: Facial features My Mum says the same about her setters....I would say you can but I know I would base my decision on the size of a dog .....making a total generalization/assumption that boys are bigger than girls....
Re: Facial features I think you can, I think generally girls are slightly finer featured and boys have more defined bodily features. I know girls can be fit and muscular but I think their waists are slightly less defined and there is a softer look to their bodies much the same as in people. I wonder if female dogs carry a thin layer of fat the way women do which softens the outline ever so slightly(in my case a bit more than ever so slightly!)
Re: Facial features hmm, if brodick is anything to go by I'm not sure...everyone thinks he is a girl. We were walking along the beach front last week and a big chunky handsome male show type lab came towards us and brods went wiggling up to see him, his owner said ooh look, a prrrrety girlie coming to see you. Sigh...poor Brods ;D. he is tall and has a skinny build I guess, and does have a very gentle face, but he is regualrly mistaken for a bitch...
Re: Facial features A lot of people think Obi is a girl but I think he has a boyish head - though it depends on the angle. I think that many male Labs do have a bit of a different head shape to many females but there's quite a lot of overlap. A really chunky head I'd always say is male (not sure I am always right!!!). So, yes, I think they do look a bit different on average
Re: Facial features i don't think anyone would mistake my little fella for a girl......i think he just looks all male....until next month
Re: Facial features I would say you can tell the difference at least in labs around 95% of the time. It's often very marked. Poppy is all girl, no-one would ever think otherwise!
