cruciate ligament

    how does this show up as having a problem i have never had a dog with this and dont know anything about it my dog has been limping looks like the top of her leg my be the problem

    This is damage to the knee ligaments in the hind legs. The ligament can be damaged in part, in which case you would see a limp, or completely ruptured, in which case there would be an extremely obvious limp - my dog snapped his cruciate completely and was 3/10 lame.

    If you suspect this, get to a vet without delay. Arthritis will set in and the sooner you get your dog on to anti-inflamatories, restricted exercise and then repair, the better the outlook.

    If your dog is relaxed being examined, a vet may be able to diagnose cruciate damage through doing a "draw test" - this is seeing how easy it is to slide the knee joint around. Most dogs are too tense for this, and need to be sedated for the vet to be sure.

    ok thanks no it is not that she can still run and problem is not the knee
