Apparently murphy has had a little blood in his poo according to oh but he's always picked it up before I could see which wasn't that helpful. Anyway he's been pooing less and when he has it has been very loose and he had a pinky tinge. Im not going to give him any tea and I have so me pro-bind so going to give him that and then prob chicken and rice in the morn. He has been on new food for 2 weeks, I assume if it was that that was upsetting his stomach he would have been ill sooner?
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) The title of this thread made me smile. My old lab was called Murphy and he had colitis regularly. ;D Your doing everything right. I would agree if it was the new food I'd expect it to have affected him sooner. How long has this been going on ? I'd work on the three day rule unless he gets worse obviously. If he's not better within three days then a vet trip although if there was blood I did tend to go sooner as there is more chance of infection but then I'm paranoid about diarrhoea thanks to Murphy :. You could give him a small amount of food for tea. With my Murphy I didnt completely starve. I just gave a very small amount. Some vets say starve and some say feed for diarrhoea so I went with both. : Hope he's feeling better tomorrow.
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) Thanks Jen it started on friday. But its only today that i have seen and decided there is an issue, rather than the odd runnyish poo, if you see what i mean. I know some say starve for 24hours but i would feel bad! So i thought if i dont give him anything tonight and then see how we go in the morn. Il be at the vets anyway int he morn with maisie as she has a bad eye so i will mention it then. Iv got some pro-kolin so will give him that and see. Iv been using an arden grange liver paste for treating them and i wonder whether that is too rich for him? Murphys are obviously more prone to upset tums
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) I owned a GSD who had been abused, he had bouts of colitis but it disappeared once as settled on the right diet . If I remember rightly, our Vet told us to watch the fats and feed a high carb bland diet, hoping Murphy feels better soon x
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) Hes on skinners field and trail salmon and rice for sensitive tums. I think it is high carb.
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) Hope Murphy gets better soon x and poor Maisie with her eye x
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) How is Murphy today ? You could be right about the liver paste that would've set my Murphy off : Salmon and rice for sensitive stomachs should be fine although my Murphy found salmon too rich but he was very sensitive. I fed him kibble wich was white fish and rice. He started on royal canin sensitivity then I changed him onto fish4dogs. As you said before though your Murphy has been on that two weeks so it should be ok. With my Murphy if he ate anything too rich it affected him quickly. Hope Maisie gets on ok as well.
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) He seems ok this morning Jen thanks I gave him a little tea last night and a small amount of breakfast this morn and he's done a normal poo, so hopefully something had just upset him. not going to give him anymore liver paste though. I am also going to give him the full tube of prokolin just for good measure. X
Re: Murphys got colitis (warning graphic details!) Glad he's ok. I build up the amount of food by a third each day so by day three back on full ration. Gives the bowels chance to recover.
