So another season question, does the vulva always swell during a season? it's been over 3weeks since we first noticed blood and only for a week. We've had nothing else. I'm just wondering when we can let her off lead again? Reading about it on google they all say it swells??? Thanks in advance
Re: Does it Always swell Some swell more than others. Harley's didn't swell much whereas my friends smaller dog swelled a lot!
Re: Does it Always swell If you rub your hands above her butt, where her tail joins her back, and she sort of leans into you and swishes her tail to one side, then she is still ready to mate. This isn't a fool-proof method though! If you know any intact male dogs, you can see what his reaction to her is, and hers to him, while they are both on the lead. But generally speaking, if you haven't seen any blood for three weeks, I would say you are pretty much in the clear. What does your vet say?
Re: Does it Always swell Thanks for the replies, she hasn't done the 'tail' thing for a week and a half so maybe she has finished and didn't swell much and we missed it????? Didn't fix her inverted vulva so guess its surgery for her when she is spayed I was going to wait another week and then phone the vet as I need a script from them
Re: Does it Always swell Hi, Nellie (almost 10 months old) is having her first season now. She was very swollen and it was very noticeable, it was at least 3 times its normal size and could be seen from behind when she walked! She appears to be coming to the end of her season and the swelling has subsided some what and bleeding is now minimal (She bleed for at least 2 weeks!) I am going to be very careful walking her over the next week or so just to make sure we are out the other side before we let her off again.
Re: Does it Always swell Harley bled for just over 2 weeks. Our vet advised us to keep her on lead walks for a further 2 weeks min once she stopped bleeding. Better to be safe than sorry
