So, we went to the vet and bawled him out. J showed him pictures of how miserable Willow was before and how much chirpier after she got the painkillers. Willow added her two cents by weeing on his floor. He was very apologetic (I should think so) and said he'd already taken the other vet to task about it and explained the gravity of the situation. He assured us we'd only deal with him directly in the future.

Anyway, Willow's wound is healing well with no infection or inflammation and it doesn't seem to be causing her any pain anymore. We're going back on Monday for another review and he'll either take the stitches out then or on Wednesday. The vet thought she'd be fine without any painkillers now, but gave us some to tide us over the weekend just in case.

She's almost back to her old self now and getting quite bored, which is a good sign! I'm going to start taking her on some very short, gentle, on-lead walks over the next few days to keep her occupied and also increase her training a little. I just wish it wasn't dumping quite so heavily with snow still!!!

Now, a question (that I should have asked the vet, but forgot). I've heard it said dogs generally take around ten days to get back to normal, so when you have two, that's how long they should be separated for. Ten days from Willow's op will be Monday. Should I plan for Shadow to come home then, or wait until she has her stitches out?

I'm so glad willow is getting back to normal. ;D

I think I'd probably wait until the stitches are out before I brought shadow home. It's only another couple of days and at least then you know nothing can go wrong. Then again I always er on the side of caution. Better safe than sorry. ::)

Good for you for having words with the vet. I agree with Jen; wait until the stitches are out. Then the happy reunion can be un Diminished!

I would set up a couple meet and greets over the weekend...quick visits with a bit of bitey face...but not full on excitable Labrador....and then when the stitches come out you'll be good to go.

Maybe even take Shadow on an short onlead walk with you??? Since they are good about sitting while you are training the other, use that as a good regulating activity time.

I think they'll be fine if supervised so you can pop in if necessary if they get out of hand.

They had a meet yesterday and it was a bit of a 'mare! Willow was SO desperate to play that she wouldn't settle. But I like the idea of the two of them on-lead together. I took Shadow on lead earlier and his manners have slipped since being with someone who puts up with anything, so it would be a good training exercise, too. I took Willow out for a walk earlier and she was besides herself with all the snow and smells! :D

It's good to hear that Willow's feeling so much better. Yes, it would be safest to wait until the stitches are out before Shadow and Willow play together again, particularly as it's only a couple of days later. Wispa was at home too after Tuppence's spay, but I put all the toys away, kept them in separate rooms when not in their crates and only walked Tuppence in the garden on her lead when Wispa was shut indoors. It was hard work, but the only way to attempt to keep Tuppence 'quiet'! Just a few days seems ages at the time, though.

By this time next week you'll be back to normal! :D
