All, I feel so bad...my 9 m old puppy Welly has been doing so well recently. We've been working our way through Gundog Manual 1 and he was doing great. Yesterday we practicing the clock (Welly sitting, whilst I walked round him) I did make it a bit bigger than normal but he'd been doing so well... Any way I get about 3/4 round and he decides to get up and wander off. So I tried not to make too big a deal of it, put him back in a sit and did the same thing but this time really close...which he did fine. I then moved on a bit and tried a stay - can usually do this no probs but again he got up at just a minute ...he can do much longer and then started racing round the field...all in all we had a nightmare yesterday. I did conclude my walk with some easier things in an effort to reassure myself he hadn't just forgotten all that he has learned but my confidence is now shaken...and guess what I've got my Silver KC test today! We went out for a walk and did a bit more a bit at the end of the day and he was fine, but I do feel really nervous now that we've gone backwards quite a bit and that if I leave his side for very long he'll just get up and wander off / run about like a mad thing as only puppies seem to do. Anyone else ever had this...any tips? Thanks in advance, Lisa
Re: Welly's set back! Oh I know that feeling. We just passed Silver and Meg (just 1) could be really variable in her responses. I was reading the 2 minute stay and the wait until called. She totally surprised me and nailed both. In fact she was the best one there. I put it down to her being tired. We had done Bronze in the morning which was fine but she was much more wiggly. We did do a good run in the morning too. So maybe a big run for Welly first will really help. Also exercises where they don't actually see you like the clock are really hard, but there are not any in Silver Good luck, its a tough test and as I kept being told they are very young to be even attempting it. Let us know how you get on. Meg will have her paws crossed for you today
Re: Welly's set back! Thanks Edp I've given him a good run this morning and did some simple things which he was fine at, but I think there must be a 'funny' smell or something in the field as he was still all jumpy and jittery today in there so I deliberately didn't try anything ...thanks for the good luck wishes
Re: Welly's set back! Thanks all for the good wishes...it must have been all the crossed paws that did it.....we passed!!!!! Am so relieved. Have now signed up for Gold starting a in weeks time I must be mad! Thanks again everyone
Re: Welly's set back! Yay, awesome very well done. That is a really tough test for a young dog. I knew he would. We just started Gold, its much harder but great fun. Keep us posted with your progress. Megs sends waggy congratulations to Welly
Re: Welly's set back! Thanks all . Welly quite exhausted after his day's adventures...not sure we'll hear a peep out of him tonight
