Hi everyone, my black lab Gabby is now 10 months old and she has improved in so many areas over the last few months. She no longer bites the lead, my hands or my feet while walking (so happy!), she is settling very well in the evenings and responds very well to commands. She is growing up! :) One thing that is very strange and has just now started happening is when she is going poo, she will jump up very quickly before she is finished and then about 30 minutes later, she will go to the door so she can go out to finish pooing. Has anyone ever seen this happen before? I have never had this issue with any of my previous dogs and I am not sure how to correct this. Thanks! Anna

    Has she had her season?

If not, maybe she's coming in to season and things feel a bit odd for her 'down there'?

    :)

I have this with Penny sometimes but it's often because she is so eager to get back inside for example at night time or if we are going for a walk (I always make her have a poo before walks so less chance I will have to clean up after her when out!).

Try going out into the garden with her and staying outside until she finishes. Shut the door so she can't get back in. Have you trained her using a command at all? When this happens with Penny I send her back outside and tell her to 'go poo poo' and she will go and finish off. You could also try taking her out on a lead so she can't run off before she's finished.

Rue sometimes won't finish peeing/pooing when she gets excited or something distracts her, but it's definitely not every time. Is something getting her attention?

Hi all, thank you for the responses. She is not in season as she has been spayed already. But typically she will do this while we are walking so maybe she is getting too excited about the walk and wants to get going so she does not finish. She does know the command "go poop" so she is aware of what I am asking. Maybe I should just wait, give the command again and then finish the walk only when she has finished her business?

Perhaps worth checking with a vet that the anal glands are ok and don't need emptying? It could just be that 'there's too much excitement to poop!' dog mentality but it might be worth just checking it out if it's something that's suddenly come on :)
