Monty (13 weeks) just found a dead mouse outside... and ate it! He ran off with it in his mouth and whenever I got near ran away, desperately trying to eat it as fast as he could! Besides being absolutely flipping disgusting, should I be worried? What if it was killed by poison? Wouldn't cats (there are 4 outside cats here) normally eat them and not leave them? He is booked in for vet tomorrow for worming. Should I mention it? Should I be doing anything else? I know he's on a raw diet... but a half decomposed stinky mouse is a whole new ballgame! :-\
Re: Urgh, mouse! Keep a close eye on him, if he becomes lethargic or sick take him straight to the vets. Hopefully he will be just fine - lots of cats kill/maim mice without eating them. Well fed cats just like to play with them. I have stinky dried tripe sticks ready for swaps in just such emergencies - yes, they smell worse (ie tastier!) than a rotting rat! :
Re: Urgh, mouse! Sorry to hijack the thread (the advice given is great and I can't add to it), but where do you buy your tripe sticks, Mags? I've seen you mention them several times, and I'd like to get some when I'm over, but there's all sorts of stick-like tripe products online and I want to make sure I get the really smelly ones!
Re: Urgh, mouse! The mouse can be an intermediate host for the tapeworm, so just keep an eye out for what look like little grains of rice near his anus. I know of a Cocker who mouse hunts nearly everyday and eats mice regularly, though they are alive! I hope the mouse didn't die because of rat poison.
