Murphy has what looks like a blade of grass in his eye along the inside corner. Iv tried to get it out with some tissue but can't. It doesn't seem to be bothering him but should I ring the vets to get them to take it our or is it ok to leave??
Re: Grass in Murphy's eye Good timing. They usually wait until, you are in the Waiting room together better
Re: Grass in Murphy's eye I would advise that you keep a check on his eye over the next few days. My trainers border cross is still receiving treatment for a scratch on his eye caused by a blade of grass.....
Re: Grass in Murphy's eye Glad it's out!! If you have a large syringe (no needle) on hand you can put some lukewarm salty water in it and try to flush it out with that. By warm salty water I mean 1 tspn salt to 1 cup water.
Re: Grass in Murphy's eye If Dexter has had a really sandy walk or it's quite windy I flush his eyes with 'tears au naturelle 'from the pharmacy ( pretty much what you describe Rachael ) X
Re: Grass in Murphy's eye I keep a big bottle of saline solution at home and one in the car as part of my dogs' first aid kit. And when I'm working them during the shooting season I even keep a few pods in my coat pocket for emergencies. They only cost a couple of pounds from Boots. Please, be careful with home made solutions. If you get the ratio of salt and water wrong which is easily done you can cause serious injury. If saline solution is not at hand it might be safer to use plain water to flush the eye rather than a home made water and salt mixture.
