Re: House training ???! Thanks for your advice. I'm sure it's me confusing her as she's so keen to learn everything else and catches on quick. Had much better day today - pads have gone and I'm shutting in her cage a little to force her to cross her legs! I'll increase the time slightly each day. Shame to shut her away but I guess it's only temp and she's flopped out and gone to sleep! thanks !
Re: House training ???! Well with Otis I put him out as often as I can before meals especialy. He isn't housetrained yet, but I put him out about midnight and when I get up at about 7. He dosent always last through the night. I hope Im doing it right to, I praise him when he does something outside. I think its gonna be quite awhile before hes trained, but hes only nine weeks. Maggie
Re: House training ???! Sounds right to me Maggie, he is only a baby but you do right to put him out often, especially after a nap and straight after a meal
Re: House training ???! Just thought I'd do an update! Pads are gone and she's had NO accidents so far without them. She holds till I take her out (stretched it to every 45/60 mins). Still a pad overnight but she's using it rather than the floor. Still unsure what to do either way when I'm at work on Monday for four hours. Any thoughts? Thank you - this forum is a wonderful mine of information!
Re: House training ???! Have you got someone to come in and let her out into the garden and give her a bit of fuss and play with her? 4 hours is too long to leave her in my opinion, not just with regards to house training but in general. I'm sorry I can't remember how old your puppy is. There have been so many new puppies on the forum lately. Have you practised leaving her on her own for periods during the day?
Re: House training ???! I do have someone to come in yes, my neighbour. But she gets a good walk before I go to work and she has a pen attached to her cage to run about in. It's not ideal but realistically I need to work! She seems fine tbh and my neighbour has popped in before when she was younger but I don't want to depend on that forever! She's 3.5 months and she needs to learn to hold while I'm out. I don't work many hours so she's with me almost all the time other than that and we're a very active family. She'll have to get used to it! Anyway, as I have to work leaving her or not isn't an issue I have control over - whether to leave pads or not is my issue.
Re: House training ???! hi jenny ann,i am with jasper most days.....tuesday i have got to go out for 6 hours, i started leaving him ,just going upstairs for an hour, increased every couple of days until i got to 6 hours,......hes not crated.....i have been able to do this from him being 3 months,......i don't think leaving her is a problem
Re: House training ???! Great progress Jennyann......now that you are making progress,I wouldn't go back to the pads....they didn't sound like they were a guaranteed success anyway.is your neighbor kindly enough to pop in every hour for this first week ,is that an option......if not at least maybe twice?it will break up the time period for her.....she might even manage longer than an hour as well? Now that you are stretching her out Im sure she will learn quickly.if that's not a possibility and she is in her pen and caged, then the worse that can happen is she will toilet in there? my dog goes every 2.5 hours (ish) through the day....He's 9 months,I know that he can go longer because he lasts from 10.30 to 6.30 through the night but I haven't left him longer than that alone during the day...but Im lucky to have the luxury of time so that makes a big difference,it's tricky managing this bit when you need to work.hope your neighbor goes gooey over puppies x
Re: House training ???! Hello, we are having similar problem too,,Chloe is 14 weeks yesterday, she jolly well knows what wee wee means, was doing really well, doing poo outside, and wee when prompted, today she has been outside with me for over half an hour, come in and weed on the carpet, no idea why. Carpet in living room where she is, lino on kitchen floor, always goes in kitchen until today, papers down at night on carpet. Feel better having read all your comments, and hoping this will sort itself, good to have a forum like this, thank you, Val
