I'm putting together a first aid kit for when we start going on longer walks as the pups get older. I've got the regular stuff, and things like wire cutters in case they get tangled in something (although barbed wire isn't used here, you can never be too careful). In some of the ready-made first aid kits, I've seen the mention of pouches for paws if they get a cut, which seems like a great idea, especially in light of Willow's current missing nail, which is a pain to keep clean. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to find them for sale individually, but I have no idea what to search for. I alternatively thought that a few layers of clingfilm taped on with vet wrap might do the same job - or even a sandwich bag!! But does anyone have these pouches, know where I could get them or know if they're any good?

Thanks Barbara. I've just bought them; they look quite tricky to put on and I'm sure Willow would kick up a fuss, but better than getting an infection if we're halfway out on a long walk when she hurts her foot.

Ask your vet for an old drip bag. Brilliant things for a first aid kit, just stick the paw in them and tape over with vetwrap or similar. Tough, waterproof, take up little room in the kit and incredibly cheap (free!).

After Lilly cut her paw we used a borrowed bootie but it was a disaster. Bought some of the Pawz ones just in case but may well be easier to just use a sock and not stray too far :-\

I used sock on Willow, but she kept standing on it and stretching it until she was tripping over it every step. I've just stopped walking her now :(
