The reason I have Charlie is because when I was small, I was given a wonderful black labrador (I think mum must have done all the house training, vets visits, and training in general). I called him Jups. I spent many, many lab-less years after Jups (AJ) and before Charlie (BC). My old dad came to meet Charlie. When he went home, he spent a day rooting through the loft to find a picture of Jups to scan in and send to me as I didn't have a picture. Here it is: I know it's my imagination, but I think Charlie and Jups look very similar. Ok, apart from the colour... anyway, lovely to remember Jups.

Re: 30 year old picture... Jups was just the best. I suspect mum might have brushed and polished them both for the photo. I remember Jups mainly covered in mud and getting wet, with Jason (the rough collie, much better behaved than Jups) looking down his long nose in disgust (Jason didn't do mud).
Re: 30 year old picture... Well, he is just a beautiful boy. What a perfect Labrador expression he has - so kind and wise. Love his name too - Jups. In Obi's more boisterous moments I sometimes wish we had gotten a Collie Rough instead ;D So genteel and refined.
