Never ever again. Our 2 dogs had a roast bone each yesterday..out in the garden in the sunshine. We were busy doing garden stuff. Belle ate the meat from hers and that was that. Then we noticed Scooby's bone was nowhere to be seen - he'd eaten the whole thing save a few SPLINTERS. He vomited 2 big pools on the grass a while later. Come dinner time, he was hungry so had his normal kibble. About 20 minutes later I realised he was under the radiator, polishing off his vomited dinner. Then at supper time (they have a small supper just before bed due to Belle's acid stomach problems) he turned his nose up at the reduced amount he was offered. It's watch and hope now..I had to wake him up this morning at 8:45! He seems brighter and devoured a light bowl of oats/water/yoghurt I am so stupid. It was his first bone (with us). Never again. Those things shouldn't be on sale.

Re: Roast Bones - never again Hope he is ok. I'm sure it will all be fine, and now you have the advantage of knowing he is a 'do or die' power chewer...(meaning hard things are to be avoided). What is a roast bone? Do you mean the bone from some meat you roasted or something you bought?

Re: Roast Bones - never again A friend of mine brought Harley a roast bone from the pet shop. Not good at all.....she was sick all night and most of the next day. I won't ever allow anyone to give her one again! Hope Scooby is a bit better today x
Re: Roast Bones - never again yes it was a roast bone from a pets shop. Butchers for bones from now on, as rare treats. He seems his usual (lazy) self today - breakfast has stayed down and he has enjoyed a wind and rain swept walk on the beach, with a few games of fetch with his Kong stick.

Re: Roast Bones - never again Not directly relevant but there has been a big marketing campaign, recently for Arden Grange pet foods at Eurotunnel. I was given a big bag of freebies at Folkestone and at Calais all of which are purported to be "Naturally Hypoallergenic", whatever that may mean! Expensive and have no plans to buy. Roger

Re: Roast Bones - never again Oh man,I'm terrified of bones...my poor lad has never had one ( well apart from illegal ones he's scavenged on walks ) I considered those hollow stuffed bones last week but they are still in the drawer in the kitchen and I believe that is where they will stay until they get put in the bin...so glad there wasn't any lasting damage x

Re: Roast Bones - never again Update - after 2 meals of oats with yogurt or egg yesterday, we tried kibble for supper - stayed down fine. He had kibble for breakfast and a lovely, bouncy walk this morning (strange coloured poo - put that down to the strange food) and slept the rest of the morning, as usual. I go out to work at 12:30 - sleeping. OH came home this afternoon to 3 piles of dog sick - all bone not breakfast. I'm relieved it's coming up rather than going through the bowel.

Re: Roast Bones - never again Albert has raw bones from Natures Menu or the butchers if he's got any. Never sick or loose, and absolutely loves them. Very calming effect on him lol. He's not a power chewer and loves to take all the sinew and meat off first, and then starts on the marrow. The bones are usually very big, and last him a couple of days (washed and in the fridge) before I throw them. Would never give him a cooked one though. Jan
