First day with new puppy - what time to feed her before bed?

    Our gorgeous black lab puppy arrived today. She's been played with all afternoon and is now snoozing in her crate. I'm just wondering what the best "schedule" would be to have the best chance of her sleeping at night and not soiling in her bed.

    Feed 3 hrs before bed.
    Take up water 1hr before bed.
    Assuming she's in a crate, then set your alarm for every 3 hrs after bed to take carry her out for a tinkle.
    Slowly increase the intervals.
    It gets easier quickly, I promise!

    I can't recommend The Happy Puppy Handbook enough.

    Good advice from Jaymz, or what time was the breeder feeding and stick with that schedule. Looking forward to photos of new puppy soon.

    Thanks both. She's just woken up so that works well. I have read the Happy Puppy book cover to cover but now that she's here I can't remember all the specifics, and it's just like having a newborn so I don't seem to have time to do ANYTHING!

    Will post photos if I can work out how to use the site from my phone.

    Good luck - at least it's nice and warm out these evenings unlike when I was standing out in the snow at 4am waiting for him to pee!

    Congrats Eightytwenty on your new arrival. I'm like you read puppy handbook bat cant remember a thing when it comes to putting into practise lol We to have just brought out Black Lab ...Ziva home on Thursday
