Just back from a lovely weeks break at Polgarrie House near Tain/Edderton. http://www.homeaway.co.uk/p836772# A fabulous house up a mile and a half of track, with a secure garden, fantastic views and the required teenage wi-fi. The house itself had two double rooms, a twin room, and a single bed in the downstairs study. It is advertised as sleep 5, but would sleep up to 7 if you had the right combination. Beds were lovely and comfy. There was a cosy sitting room with a coal/wood fire, but we didn't use this as there was a fantastic new extension with a double height ceiling and window which was really lovely to relax in and socialise, eat, drink wine......more wine.... The heating was really good too making the whole place really warm (often needed up here ). And there was an large entrance area to leave footwear, jackets, dry off dogs etc, but as it is all wooden floors, if it was really wet I think the covered porch would have fitted the bill for the footwear. There were sheep around as it is on a working farm, but they were all in fields, so if a gate was open, then safe from sheep! Lovely to get out and walk in the morning across the fields. We walked up Struie Hill one morning - all off lead once we had passed the cows (me trying my best not to make eye contact). Really fantastic views of the Dornoch Firth one way and Bonar Bridge direction the other way. Loads of great beaches on our journeys too, loads of fabulous distilleries - all offering that free dram (well, apart from Glenmorangie - boo!). The link to my Flickr album is here which has some pictures if you haven't seen it in "My Walk". I would really recommend this place if you are interested in visiting up this way. jac
Re: Dornoch (Northern Scotland) - Polgarrie House That looks great. It could make a great alternative to our usual week in the Aviemore area. Off to Google it now.....
