I've found a lump half way down Maisie's tail :( It's solid, doesn't move and is about 1cm in diameter. There is no sign of any skin change or redness, etc, and it doesn't seem to bother her when I feel it. We've got to wait to see the vet until Friday morning as she is away and she is the vet that Maisie is learning to trust.

Also, a while back I posted that she was loosing hair on her nose. At the same time she also had patchy hair on one of her front legs and a patch on her back foot that was also thinning. Her hair on the nose is very slowly growing back, but the foot and the leg appear to be getting worse, particularly over the last week. I really hope that the hair loss and a lump don't have a link. I made the mistake of doing a goggle search on lumps on and really wish I hadn't. I really should have know better!

Hope every thing is alright with Maisie, not long until Friday. Never, never search on google with symptoms - the result is always frightening and we fixate on the worst scenario, not the more minor problems.

I'm sorry you've found a lump on Maisie's tail I know how scary that can be. I've had labs for 19 years now and experienced all sorts of lumps from little worts to big abscesses, different sizes and different looking. NONE were anything to worry about. My old lab had a lump removed because it kept getting bigger but it was basically an infection in the fat layer. My cousins dog recently had a lump removed that didn't look good at all and again an infection in a hair follicle. Try not to worry they are usually nothing to worry about. She couldnt have injured her tail could she or been stung ?

Hi Debs, I know how you feel, finding a lump is just awful as I know, Hattie had a lump on her back leg in February, it was surgically removed and was non cancerous, thank heavens. I hope all goes well at the vets on Friday xxx

    Re: Found a lump

There are so many things that can cause lumps and most of them are absolutely nothing. Hope it all goes fine at the vets. Don't worry if the vet thinks it needs further investigation - that still doesn't mean it's anything bad.

Thanks for all your posts, much appreciated. It's a worry, even with your sensible head on, but fingers crossed all will be ok.

    Re: Found a lump

Good news, the lump is a cyst, so unless is gets bigger, we don't need to worry ;D.........

Bad news though, I mentioned to the vet that Maisie's hips had been clicking and she seemed to be stiff in her legs at the end of the day, so you've guessed it, x-rays next Thursday as vet not happy with her after being examined :( More waiting.............

Oh that is good about the lump!

Try not to jump to conclusions about her hips. Easy to say, I know.

I'm trying! I've been noticing the clicking and stiffness for a few months now. When she was poorly with the chest infection she had anti inflammatories, and the stiffness seemed better, so I'm hoping that's not connected.
