The day has come when I can finally fold up the crate and make some room To be fair Bella has always been left in (half ) the kitchen with her crate open during the day with no problems ( not even a skirting board nibble?!) but closed at night ( an early trial of decrating led to her getting out to toilet). Anyhow , she's stopped weeing on the sherpi dog bed and now sleeps on it ;D so as she's toilet trained, I've started leaving the big comfy bed in the kitchen and not shutting her crate door and she has chosen the past 2 nights to sleep on that . During the day Bella cam also tells me the she prefers the bed to her crate and vet bed, so last night I collapsed the crate and so far all good ;D

Ah a milestone...I've said many times,I've kept mine up because it's not in the way where it is but reading your post makes me think I can't actually remember the last time he went in it.....I've just tested him 'in your crate Dex 'and shut the door and he went straight in and lay down ,made me miss the little puppy boy I once had ...... Keep those new kitchens safe,you know these dogs of ours,they've always got some mischief up their paws x
Re: Decrated! You might want to keep it for the teenage years, too. Mine haven't been in their crate for a couple of months now, although Willow tends to go in to eat her lunch and for the odd little sleep, but it's been very handy a couple of times (and it really is only a couple of times) when they've been absolutely ridiculously mental, doing the wall of death etc, and I've used it to calm one of them down. It might be easier to manage with only one teenager int he house, though!
Re: Decrated! As I type this, Maisie is sleeping in her crate. It was quite funny, once I moved to putting her in the playpen while I was gone (was going to attach the crate, but haven't done that yet, may still do it) - she actually started going into her crate and sleeping in there a lot more. She BARELY went in and slept of her own accord when she was being crated while I was gone (2-6 hours per day, in 2-3 hour time stretches), like maybe once a month. And now she goes in maybe 4 days a week and sleeps in there. I was thinking I would get rid of the crate once I realized she was okay in the playpen (I taped her today and she cried a loud cry once, then whined a bit for maybe 2-3 minutes, then settled down to sleep, so I feel like she's ok in there!) but now I realize she quite likes it. I think when we move it'll be helpful to maintain "her space".
