Unfortunately they can still go through the windscreen in a low speed collision (20kph), and certainly they will at a collision of 60kph (suburban street speeds). Basically the car stops and the dog keeps going at the speed at which you were traveling. Even if they just bounce off the interior of the car it's still not a good result for the dog. Hope it all goes well for all the pups going in for ops.

[/quote] Nor for anyone in the front if it's a fully-grown dog and they hit the front seat with any speed... did you ever see that seatbelt awareness advert advert in the UK where a kid in the back, not wearing a seatbelt, smashed into the front seat? "After killing his mother, John sat back down". It was rather grim, but has stayed with me for years, so I don't let anyone in the back of my car without wearing a seatbelt. They don't get to have a choice if they want to ride with me. I want my dogs secured in the car for both their protection and mine.
