Monty has a raw diet. It is a preprepared one by Natures Menu. He loves it. Yesterday, along with his normal three meals, he had two chicken eggs and, since we started to "charge" our clicker, quite a lot of treats. A fair amount of the treats were high value, blended fish mix in a baby pouch. Understandably, we was not interested in his dinner at 6.30pm. However, this morning at 5.30am, he is also not interested in his breakfast. He seems absolutely fine in himself. I did have a panic yesterday when I found worms in one of the chickens' poo, so did give him a dose of Advocate which I was meant to give him at the beginning of the month. Since then I've read that the chicken worms are species specific so there's not chance of him getting them anyway. I imagine that you're going to all say just keep an eye on him if he seems fine in himself, but I just want to be sure. He is 20 weeks I think. Thanks James
Re: Off his food Sorry to hear he is off colour....If he has been drinking plenary I would say keep an eye on him this morning.....the unique factor in this usually quite normal scenario is that he was wormed yesterday...Dexter did used to be a bit runny in his tummy when he was young and I wormed him, maybe this is Monty's reaction to the pills?i don't know James...others will be along I'm sure x
Re: Off his food He did have a LOT of treats and those two eggs, all on top of his normal food allwowance, but I'd have thought he'd have digested all of that by now?
Re: Off his food He's absolutely fine in himself. We've just been out for a play and a walk. He did a normal poo and then a pretty yukky one. I put it down to the excess of rich food (two fresh eggs and a load of blended sardine/mackerel) I'll keep an eye on him and see how his appetite is at lunchtime.
Re: Off his food How is Monty? Harley is also on natures menu and loves it. Only once has she not eaten it and that was earlier in the week when her glands were up.
Re: Off his food Thanks for asking. He's completely normal in himself. Wasn't hugely fussed about lunch so I only gave him a few cubes but he ate it all. Wasn't silly excited about it like normal though. But otherwise he still seems completely himself and is currently destroying the pot plants in the garden so I'm not terribly concerned at the moment (for him, but my wife's Chelsea Flower Show rose is another matter!)
Re: Off his food I would have thought that was far too much food for him and he just feels stuffed. I also feel it is a bit rich and wouldn't suggest feeding two eggs in one day
Re: Off his food
I would have thought that was far too much food for him and he just feels stuffed. I also feel it is a bit rich and wouldn't suggest feeding two eggs in one day
I'd agree that it sounds like a lot of food. I know I have Labs so have to be extra vigilant, but when I give lots of training treats, the meals decrease in size accordingly, or even disappear (much to their disgust). I do like to feed raw eggs (including shells), but only two per pup per week, because, despite being a great source of lots of nutritional goodness, they are rather high calorie and I like to give more food per calorie "buck".
Re: Off his food Yeah I agree and am pretty sure that's what it is. My own fault. The eggs alone were too much and I only gave them as I'd dropped one and the other was a bit misfomed. Well I know better now...
