I finally booked an appointment to see a behaviourist as he has issues with anxiety and fearfulness of strangers. Ive read many articles on how to improve his confidence but after a few months i havent seen much improvement. I know its a lot of money so I've saved up and chose the best personin my area to help my boy.

I was wondering whether anyone has seen a behaviourist and what for? Did it help?

I think that seeing a good behaviourist is a great idea as it can be so helpful to get really specific advice from someone knowledgeable who can observe you and your dog together. They should be able to help you put together a plan for helping Max. You just want to be sure that the behaviourist uses kind, positive methods based on an up-to-date understanding of how dogs learn - especially for nervousness issues.

I read over all your posts about Max and it does seem like you have taught him a lot and made good progress since you got him. It sounds like you have a good foundation, but just need some practical help with some anxiety issues (and maybe some excitement/mouthing issues?).

What made you choose this particular behaviourist? :)

I chose her specifically because she uses kind positive methods, ive read reviews on her and theyve all been good. She gives us a written report too, she comes to the house then we go for a walk to see his issues outside the house which is where his main issues are. His excitement has decreased a lot this week and his hurt his toe with a bad sprain. Luckily it wasnt broken so the behaviourist is still coming in two weeks time. Cannot come quick enough as last week he growled out of fear, i know hed never hurt anyone but if hes pushed two far i couldnt predict the outcome.

I think it will be money well spent.

You are not happy and he's not happy.

You are clearly devoted to your boy and ready to work with him.

I look forward to hearing of your success. Gosh that sounds so pompous! But I am sure you know what I mean.
