Hi all, my black lab Gabby just turned 1 year old on Sunday. For the past 3 months, she has done so well with behaviors we have been working on such as grabbing items from the counter, the leave it command and the drop it command. She has also improved dramatically on walks, not pulling as much, not getting overly excited over other people or dogs and has not jumped up and grabbed the leash. However, almost over night she has gone back to her bad ways. She has started grabbing the leash and growling, she jumped up on the bathroom sink and ran off with my cleanser and would not drop it even for her favorite treat, picking up sticks on our walks and not dropping them when asked and this is all within the last few days. It's like she has forgotten everything she learned. Is she "testing" me? Help, I want my well-behaved lab back! I know labs are "puppies" for a longer time, but at what age does all of this start to fade? Not having a good week :'(
Re: Gabby is going backwards with training Hello there, don't panic! It happens to us all.... [quote author=astyers link=topic=10844.msg161591#msg161591 date=1431003526] Is she "testing" me? They don't think like that. She is growing up, becoming independent and you trained the puppy - now you have to train the adult. It doesn't really "fade", although they do get slightly less silly (my boy is two and a bit, and I think he is showing signs of growing up a bit, but not much). People who think that the teenage phase just passed are the ones that kept training.
Re: Gabby is going backwards with training Harley done the same just after she turned 1. I found she was starting to become more independent and I just needed to keep up with the training. At 21 months now she is pretty good most of the time . Hang in there and keep up with the training and reinforcing good behaviours
