I am having Tara the Lab spayed, but she is also entered for a dog show. The spaying is booked for the beginning of June, when she will be 6 months, and the show is 22 June. Will her scar be covered with fur regrowth by then? Our Cocker had long fur, and that covered the scar very quickly, but Lab fur is different, so we may have to wait till after the show. Please only comment on the scar/fur issue, as thoughts on spaying have been done to death elsewhere, and there are medical reasons for Tara to be spayed at 6 months. Thank you.
Re: How long for spay scar to heal Willow was spayed at 6.5 months. She is now nine months (tomorrow) and her hair has only about half grown back. I don't know if she's abnormally slow, but it seems to be taking aaaaages! Her scar is almost invisible now. I think the chances of it growing back within three weeks are pretty much non-existent, if my experience is anything to go by!!
Re: How long for spay scar to heal Maisie was spayed around the same time as Willow, at 4.5 months, and I think her hair is still a little thin down there. It definitely took quite awhile to get back to looking "normal" and it was noticeably lighter in fur for at least a month I would say?
Re: How long for spay scar to heal Juno was spayed at 5.5 months and she is now nearing 11 months and it's only in the last couple of months that the fur growth has become less noticeable, so around 3 - 4 months. The scar is invisible though. I know it's a different area but the fur regrowth on her shoulder and leg is still very noticeable and her operation was 8 weeks ago. I suspect the shaved area will sill be very visible after 3 weeks
Re: How long for spay scar to heal I don't know how long Molly's scar took to heal. It didn't worry her so there was no point in examining her. It was at least four months before her fur grew back. I just used to call her "baldy belly"
Re: How long for spay scar to heal For Charlie, who often has patches shaved (unfortunately, for one thing and another) fur on his forelegs grows back within 3 weeks easily. But fur on his sides, tummy and thighs will only even start to grow back the next time he changes coat, although his undercoat grows back first it takes a complete 6 months - and a coat change - for the top fur to completely grow back.

Re: How long for spay scar to heal Gypsy's scar was completely healed within a month - you can't even see where it was now. But her fur has only just finished growing back, five months later.
The fur definitley takes longer to grow back than the actual wound to heal. The wound itself should be well healed by the time of the dog show (providing there are no complications eg infection) but the fur probably won't have grown back by then.
Thanks everyone. She is going in on Thursday, and we are not going to the dog show, so no longer an issue!

Hi, been off as lost my new password!!!! Tara's operation went well, but she managed to chew up three "lampshades"! Stitches came out OK, but three days later she jumped into the local lake, and chased some ducks across it. Still work in progress, I am afraid.
