Yesterday Lochan found a dead fox. Unfortunately it was a very dead fox, some weeks dead by the look of it. She rolled joyously and enthusiastically. For the next 2 hours I gagged every time she came within 20 feet of me and made her swim in the river many more times than is normal. At home she wasn't getting in the house so had three consecutive baths using fox poo shampoo and the cold garden hose but was still slightly whiffy.Sadly, she suffered another attack of limber tail last night, almost certainly due to the prolonged cold water exposure. Interestingly, I happened to be taking some blood from her for a totally unrelated reason and there is absolutely nothing of note - no increase in inflammatory markers, nothing at all. It is a very strange syndrome this limber tail. Anyway, a couple of doses of painkiller and she is back to full wagging normality today, albeit slightly pongy still.
There does seem to be so many people reporting limber tail in the last few weeks - could it be something to do with the season? Maybe dogs use some muscles when they swim that are unconditioned from not swimming in the winter? Or something.....
Tarka never gets it and swims daily in any temperature. Lochan seems susceptible and is quite frankly a rubbish swimmer so there may be something in the theory that it is a lack of conditioning.
Harley suffers from this - she swims on a regular basis, no matter what the weather. I have found that by drying her off really quickly has reduced the amount of times and severity of it!
Poor Lochan , hoping her tail is wagging again soon . My last Lab was prone to cold tail , and yet Sam will swim in very cold water and ( touch wood ) hasn't ever suffered , its not nice
Hi we adopted our lab last summer. Yesterday is jumped into the icy pool and has been looking sad and her tail is just hanging. Not wagging at all. I did some research here and it seems she has this syndrome. I was so scared for her. Please, how long does this last? Ive roped off her entrance to the pool, gave her a coated aspirin and some compresses. I knew nothing about this till a few minutes ago searching this forum. Id appreciate any info you all can offer. Much appreciated! Moderator edit: QuuenVictoria has started a separate thread about this so please post replies to her there to avoid doubling up: http://thelabradorforum.com/forum/n...alth/238573-drop-tail-cold-tail-clueless-help
