I have read about the benefit of ice after serious surgery and after his surgery for a cruciate repair Charlie's instructions specified that his leg should be iced several times a day.

I tried three different ice packs - all bought on Amazon.

    1) Koolpak - about £6

    2) Evanmore reusable hot cold pack packs ice heat gel physio compress - £7 for 2

    3) 3m Nexcare Coldhot Therapy Gel Maxi Pack - £13

The Koolpak is dead simple - fill with ice. It's like using a bag of peas. But it's a bit of a faff filling, emptying etc. Worked ok, but the ice thaws quickly.

The Evanmore gel pack were also ok - but very stiff when frozen. So a bit difficult to wrap around a dog's leg.

The Nexcare pack is great - still very flexible when frozen and comes with it's own bag to guard the skin (so no need to mess around wrapping ice packs in tea towels). It took the longest to freeze though, a full 24 hours before it was really cold.
